SALISBURY — Hood Theological Seminary is moving its commencement activities due to predicted heavy rains and possible thunderstorms this weekend. The seminary’s 15th commencement has been relocated to Varick Auditorium on the campus of Livingstone College, 701 W. Monroe St.
The honors awards and closing convocation on Friday at 7 p.m. will also take place at Varick. The commencement will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. In making the announcement, Hood’s president, Dr. Vergel Lattimore, said, “We made this change to ensure the safety and comfort of all participants and guests. We are thankful to Livingstone College for making Varick Auditorium available to us.”
The closing convocation and Commencement have been held under a large tent on the Seminary’s campus since 2006 after Hood relocated to its present site on Lutheran Synod Drive.
Several other events associated with the end of the academic year will be held as planned in the Aymer Center on the Hood campus: the Milestone Luncheon on Friday for alumni from the classes of 1991, 1996, 2001, 2006 and 2011, the Senior Barbecue from 4-6 p.m. also on Friday, and the President’s Luncheon following the graduation ceremony.
