CHINA GROVE — Ruth Penninger Haire, 89, 910 S. Franklin St., died Dec. 17, 2006, at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, following several months of declining health.

Born April 19, 1917, in Rowan County, Mrs. Haire was a daughter of the late of Frank and Ada Miller Penninger.

A graduate of Woodleaf High School, she was a member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church and retired from China Grove Cotton Mill.

Her husband, Horace E. Haire, died Dec. 28, 1966, and her son, Eugene “Sonny” Haire, died on March 4, 1999.

Survivors include daughter Patricia Shive, Rockwell; brother Robert Penninger, Woodleaf; sisters Helen Waller, Woodleaf, Bobbie Miller, Statesville, and Barbara Jean Bradley, Glen Elyn, Ill.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A service was held Dec. 20, 2006, at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Barrie Kirby. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.
