Salisbury senior Grace Yatawara made a hole-in-one during a U.S. Women’s Open Championship Qualifier.
Yatawara aced the 142-yard No. 15 hole at Sanford’s Carolina Trace County Club.
The hole-in-one helped Yatawara shoot 78 in the first round. She shot 82 in the second to finish at 16-over 160.
Eighty-four golfers were competing for two spots in the U.S. Women’s Open and for two alternate spots.
Yatawara tied for 37th. She made 10 pars in the first round and eight in the second.

College track
Carson-Newman’s Tori Gaul (East Rowan) hs been named a CoSIDA first team Academic All-District selection for her efforts on the playing field and in the classroom.
Gaul has turned in four straight-A semesters in a row while studying biology and health professions.
Gaul is currently competing at the Division II outdoor Track & Field Championships in Bradenton, Fla.

College softball
Catawba senior pitcher Carley Tysinger is on the CoSIDA Academic All-America Division II softball team.
A chemistry major, Tysinger posted a 3.75 GPA and won 39 games.

Junior Legion
Mooresville got great pitching from Justin Poris and four hits from Chase Williams to beat the Kannapolis Cardinals, 9-1, on Wednesday.

Intimidators
The Intimidators were a strike away from victory when Asheville’s Brian Mundell hit a game-tying double in the top of the ninth inning, and Rockies prospect Brendan Rodgers won the game with a three-run homer in extras as the Tourists beat Kannapolis, 9-6, in 11 innings on Thursday at Intimidators Stadium.
Seby Zavala hit a three-run homer for the Intimidators.

All-SPC soccer
Carson’s Megan Bolick, a senior who signed with Barton, was named South Piedmont Conference Goalkeeper of the Year for girls soccer.
Cox Mill’s Mary Perkins was honored as the league’s player of the year, while Concord’s Taylor Strode, a former Salisbury assistant, was named SPC Coach of the Year.
East Rowan’s Kelby Porter, Carson’s Mia Trexler, West Rowan’s Claudia Patterson and South Rowan’s Taylor Mauldin were the Rowan players named to the All-SPC team.
