N.C. State golfer Davis Richards, a South Rowan graduate, won the Warrior club championship on Sunday.
Richards shot 68-66 — 134 to finish three strokes ahead of Jake Kennedy. Kennedy (West Rowan, Gardner-Webb) shot 69-68 — 137.
Others in the Championship Flight were Jared Barnette (65-76 — 141), Richard Cobb (68-74 – 142), Andrew Purcell (70-74 — 144), Joey Boley (71-76 — 147), Justin Lefler (67-78 — 145) and Mike Mills (69-81 — 150).
Chris Owen shot 74-77 – 151 to win the First Flight.
Tom Anderson (160) won the Second Flight with two 80s. Sean Swavely shot 84-78 — 162 to win the Third Flight. Darrell White won the Fourth Flight with rounds of 90-83 — 173.
Jim Christy won the Senior Championship Flight with scores of 68-72 — 140. Ed Hinshaw won the Senior First Flight with 87-80 — 167.
McCanless
The McCanless Couples played a Captain’s Choice on Sunday.
The team of Ty & Beverly Cobb, Gene & Mary Seaford and Lexie Miller took first place.
The team of Walt & Kim Kincaid, Azalee Story, David Huneycutt and Harry Owen took second place.
Miller won closest to the pin. Huneycutt won longest putt.

Rowan Little League
Rowan Little League fall baseball and softball registrations are being taken at Godley’s Garden Center on Statesville Blvd through Sept. 3.
Parents can also register online anytime at http://www.rowanlittleleague.com.
Baseball cost is $40 for all leagues: T-ball (ages 4-6), Coach Pitch (ages 7-8), B (ages 9-10), A (ages 11-12).
Softball cost is $40 for all leagues: Girls (Ages 3-6) TBall Softball, Coach Pitch (ages 6-8) 10U (ages 9-10), 12U (ages 11-12).

American Legion
The eight-team field for the upcoming Southeast Regional (starts Wednesday in Asheboro) was completed on Sunday by victories by Tallahassee, Fla., and Wheeling, W. Va.
Tallahassee Post 13 beat Jacksonville twice on Sunday, while Wheeling Post 1 topped South Charleston.
Rowan County plays Columbia, Tenn., at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Minor leagues
The Kannapolis Intimidators have added Coastal Caorlina infielder Zach Remillard to the roster.

K.J. Woods doubled and singled, and Brannon Easterling allowed just one run over seven innings as the Kannapolis Intimidators beat Greensboro, 2-1, on Sunday.

Kansas City sent Whit Merrifield (Davie) back to Triple-A Omaha last week.
Merrifield is 6-for-17 since being sent down and homered on Saturday.

Justin Seager, 24, the middle Seager brother, is batting .203 with seven homers and 31 RBIs for Bakersfield in the advanced Class A California League. He’s in the Mariners’ organization.

Bobby Parnell (East Rowan) is 1-1 with 12 saves in 37 appearances for the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens.

Craig Brooks (Catawba) dominated at Class A South Bend (2-1, 5 saves, 1.39 ERA) but has struggled since the Cubs promoted him to advanced A Myrtle Beach.
Brooks has a 1-0 record with a 10.50 ERA in eight relief appearances for the Pelicans. He’s still getting strikeouts (13 in 12 innings), but he’s been hurt by 11 walks.

Jordan “J.J.” Jankowski (Catawba), a 27-year-old right-hander, is in Triple-A in the Houston Astros organization.
In 39 appearances for Fresno, he’s 1-2 with two saves and a 3.95 ERA. The 34th-round pick is getting a lot of strikeouts — 78 in 57 innings.

Jerry Sands (Catawba) hasn’t got rolling yet for Triple-A Charlotte since being demoted by the Chicago White Sox.
Sands is batting .170 in 39 games with two homers and nine RBIs.

Will Albertson (Catawba) is on a Giants team with a lot of catchers in the Arizona Rookie League and hasn’t been in the lineup enough to find a groove.
Albertson is 6-for-31 (.194) with three RBIs.

Independent leagues
T.J. Wharton (Catawba) has moved on to the Ottawa Champions of the Can-Am League, one of the top independent leagues.
Wharton destroyed the Pecos League, batting .423 with 10 homers and 66 RBIs.

Wood bat leagues
Kyle Smith (Catawba) has hit well in th Coastal Plain League for the Asheboro Copperheads.
Smith is batting .316 with five homers and 25 RBIs.

Shortstop Jeremy Simpson (West Rowan, Catawba) recently joined the Asheboro squad.
He played for the Concord Weavers in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League earlier this summer and led the Weavers with 14 steals and 27 runs.
