Staff report
Joe Allen poured it on early, Doug Campbell did late and Salisbury rolled to a 97-45 victory Friday at West Davidson.
Allen scored 11 of his game-high 25 points in the first quarter, while Campbell scored 11 of his 18 in the fourth. In between, the Hornets got 13 points from Brandon Abel and 12 from Jacob Phifer.
Salisbury coach Jason Causby, however, was more pleased about the defense than the offensive outburst. Nick White scored only six points but had 10 blocks.
Causby also praised the play of Abel, a regular starter who came off the bench as a way to jump-start his game.
“They stayed within one the first six minutes, then defensively we were able to pick it up a little,” Causby said. “It looked like Nick White was back there playing defense by himself.”
The Hornets moved into a first-place tie in the CCC thanks to Ledford’s 38-36 win against Lexington, which fell to 2-1 in the conference race.
J.B. McDowell hit a 3-pointer in the final minute for the Panthers.
