MOCKSVILLE — On Sunday, Aug. 14, at 2 p.m., the Davie County Affiliate of Habitat for Humanity will host a dedication for the recently built home at 132 Hillcrest St. The public is invited to attend this event.

The Charles Sanders family, Chuck, Natalie, Lily, and Jake, will move into their newly built Habitat home later this month. Pictured at right, along with the family, are Habitat Board member Wayne Frye, and Daphne Frye, the Executive Director of the Davie County Affiliate.

The Sanders family put in more than 570 hours of work on their new home. All four family members painted, hammered, cut, and did their part to make their house a reality.

The many volunteers who participated in this build are from area churches and organizations, as well as folks from local building trades who gave of their time and skill to make this home possible. Daphne Frye said, “This has been the easiest home we’ve done.” This is in part because the family has been so involved. Chuck said that this has been a great learning experience. He now has an appreciation for folks who build.

Natalie shared that they were homeless for a few months, and then moved into an apartment. This new home will be a real blessing. They never thought they would own a home, let alone a new one. The children can now safely play outside and even have a dog. To have the opportunity to choose paint colors for each room was a joy. Lily and Jake chose their own paint colors and both said their rooms are “awesome”!

Habitat for Humanity’s Davie County Affiliate attempts to build one home each year. Volunteers are always needed to assist in this process. For more information, visit www.daviehabitat.org
