SALISBURY — Salisbury City Hall could soon see the addition of flagpoles out front.

The Historic Preservation Commission will hold a public hearing this week to consider issuing a Certificate of Appropriateness for the installation of three flagpoles in front of City Hall at 217 S. Main St. The commission will meet at 5:15 p.m. Thursday at City Hall.

Lynn Raker, an urban design planner who retired from the city in May and now works part-time, is the applicant for the request.

The flagpoles will be on the side of the building that faces South Main Street. Raker said they will be close to the curb and will be centered to the building with the American flag in front of the front doors. The state and city flag will be on either side of the American flag, each seven feet apart.

The American flagpole will be 25 feet high and the state and city flagpoles will be 20 feet high.

Raker said city officials have wanted to have the flagpoles installed in front of City Hall for at least as long as they have been in the building.

In other business, the commission will consider the following for Certificates of Appropriateness:

• The removal of brick pavers, installation of a French drain and gutter downspout and pouring of concrete sidewalk and patio at a property at the 200 block of West Monroe Street.
• The demolition of a storage building in the backyard of a property at the 200 block of West Horah Street.
• The changing of surface material from gravel to concrete at a property at the 400 block of North Lee Street.
