Nancy H. Charles

CHAPEL HILL – Nancy Henderson Charles, of Chapel Hill, passed away peacefully in her home in Chapel Hill on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006.
Born Nov. 20, 1919, in Spencer, Mrs. Charles was the youngest child of Virgil Wiley and Bulah Elliott Henderson.
She spent 27 years of her husband William’s military career living in Germany, Japan and numerous U.S. bases. They retired to Spencer and purchased McLeod’s Remnant Shop, where they shared sister Pearl Atwell’s abundant love of life with customers for 17 years. Nancy was a member of First Baptist Church in Spencer.
Her husband, William Shaw Charles, predeceased her by six years.
Survivors include her sons, William Charles of Chapel Hill and James Charles of Spencer, and a daughter, Nancy Parsifal of Chapel Hill. She also has four grandchildren: Jamie Charles, Cyrus Parsifal, Tristan Charles and Amber Charles; and a year-old great-grandson, Andrew Shaw Charles.
Nancy was a charter member of both the Rowan Doll Society and Carolina Artists, where her favorite medium was watercolor.
With her welcoming smile and vibrant personality, Nancy was happiest sharing her multiple interests with a wide network of beloved friends and family.
Service: A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 13, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Spencer. Her final resting place will be with her husband in the Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C.
