Caleb Wygal has published his third book, “Blackbeard’s Lost Treasure.” It takes readers on a journey using real events and settings from the past along the Carolina Coast. It begins in Concord before making its way to the coast and Outer Banks.

It is a semi-finalist in the 2016 Clive Cussler Adventure Writer’s Competition.  

The book follows two men, Lucas Caine and Darwin Trickett, on a journey to the Carolina coast after Trickett discovers a journal written by Blackbeard’s wife and a treasure map that looks hand-drawn by the notorious pirate himself.

They follow clues that take them to multiple locations along the North and South Carolina coasts while being aided by a Blackbeard impersonator and shadowed by a mysterious group of modern-day pirates.

Wygal is a sports blogger and the co-owner of BlueGoldSports.com. He owns a social media marketing and website development company in Concord.

Poetry

Yvonne Hampden has released a book of poetry, “The Reacquaintance of Love.”

She says the book, “walks us through the challenge of life’s questionable journey.” She writes, “Envision the faith-filled possibilities that reflect the divine essence of the human spirit. Reflect on the many culturally diverse experiences that help us make our way in life.”

Hampden is a native New Yorker raised in Manhatten’s upper West Side. Her family moved to the Bronx when she was a teen and she attended the City University of New York colleges part-time while raising her daughter.

She writes that she has always interacted with the community to create themes for her poetry and song lyrics, Her brother is the musician Ivan Hampden Jr.

She worked as a licensed practical nurse for 20 years. She is now living in the area with her husband of nearly 30 years.

“Surfside Moon,” a new book by Jean Townsend Whatley, has been released by Dorrance Publishing Co.

Whatley is a South Carolina native who spent an adventurous childhood all over the American South. Though her first passion was music, Whatley found herself drawn to writing. She’s taken classes in writing and literature at University of North Carolina at Charlotte and has studied with the Long Ridge Writing Group. She is also the author of “A Note for Teacher.”
