SALISBURY — Chad Campbell, head golf professional at the Country Club of Salisbury, has announced information about the 63rd annual Crowder/Dorsett Memorial 4-Ball Labor Day Tournament.
Qualifying for the event, which features two-person teams, begins next Friday, Aug. 26 and runs through Sunday, Aug. 28. Any playoffs for qualifying will be held on Aug. 28, at 5:30 p.m.
The tournament is slated to start on Saturday, Sept. 3 and conclude on Labor Day, Sept. 5.
According to Campbell, the deadline for walk-in entries will be this Sunday, Aug. 21, at noon. Eligibility includes residents of Rowan County as of Aug. 1; any players who have played in the Labor Day tournament in the past; or any member of a Rowan County golf club.
Campbell noted some improvements for this year’s event, including increased prizes for flight winners and the medalists in qualifying.
There will be one less flight this year, nine, instead of 10. There are two senior flights (championship and senior open).
Another change is that all qualifying for the Open and Championship divisions will be played from the black tees. In the past, it was a combination of white and blue tees, so the course will play considerably longer.
The senior flight will play the white tees and super seniors will play the gold tees. Women will use the red tees.
“We will continue to use No. 1 and No. 10 tee starts, during the match play, as it was a big success last year in getting matches started on time, said Campbell.
“As always, the Country Club of Salisbury opens its doors to the community and spectators are welcomed and encouraged during the qualifying and the event,” continued Campbell.
Campbell added that spectators will have access to the grill room and beverage carts. He said that golf carts for spectators are limited due to the high volume needed for the players, but can be rented if available.
The team of Phil Miller and Andrew Morgan are the defending champions.
