SALISBURY — A new restaurant on Statesville Boulevard is adding to the Latin American food options in Salisbury.
Megan La Mexicana has opened at 2168 Statesville Blvd. The restaurant held its grand opening on Aug. 20.
The restaurant offers dishes from Honduras, El Salvador and Mexico, according to manager Marina Farfan. They will also offer American favorites like hamburgers, chicken wings and spaghetti, along with a universal favorite, free Wi-Fi.
Farfan’s cousin, Maricela de la Cruz, is the owner of the restaurant. She named it after her daughter, Megan.
Farfan said most of the restaurant’s employees have worked in the restaurant business for years. Elsa Wilson, head chef, worked in the kitchens of Blue Bay Seafood Restaurant and Cracker Barrel Old Country Store.
“Our dream was to have our own restaurant,” Farfan said.
They spent two months fixing up the kitchen and adding partition walls to break up the large space, all while still working at their previous jobs.
Now that the restaurant is open, Farfan said they are working on getting the word out.
Megan La Mexicana is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. It is also open on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Farfan said they are still working on the interior décor and new menus while also waiting on their alcohol license. Once they receive it, the restaurant will extend its hours on Friday and Saturday to 2 a.m.
