Regarding the Jan. 9 article in the Post about the county commissioners blaming the previous school superintendent for the problems with schools:

Instead of putting the blame on one person in Rowan County, the elected education officials need to set up new guidelines for student studies and new rules for disciplining students — rules such as the one under which student Austin Moore faces a suspension of 365 days for having an unloaded gun in his car, while a student in a Charlotte school is suspended for 10 days after putting “acid” in a teacher’s water bottle.

Austin’s infraction was poor judgment and the other student’s infraction was pure malice. Luckily, the teacher was not injured but she could have been. Guns don’t kill — people do.
