SALISBURY — To commemorate its 15th anniversary, Comfort Keepers of the Piedmont, Charlotte, and Hickory, based in Salisbury, has established A Senior’s Wish, which honors local, deserving seniors who have given so much of themselves to their friends, family and community.
A Senior’s Wish will grant well-deserving seniors the wish of a lifetime, something on their bucket list, something they might have thought it was too late to pursue.
On behalf of the worthy senior, a nominating friend or family member can request a number of different types of wishes. These might include: reconnecting with loved ones, attending events or concerts, participating in a former hobby or passion that is now a challenging (ride in classic car, horseback riding), the purchase of a computer to connect virtually with family, installation of a wheelchair ramp, renewing wedding vows or maybe even help planting a garden.
Family and friends are encouraged to submit nominations for admirable seniors. Nominations will be accepted Aug. 1–Sept. 30 and can be submitted online at ASeniorsWish.com or by completing a paper form which can be downloaded at the same website. You can request a paper copy be mailed to you by calling Comfort Keepers at 877-898-0060.
To be eligible, the nominee must be a minimum age of 65, a resident of Cabarrus, Catawba, Davidson, Davie, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan or a contiguous county, unable to fulfill the wish on their own and capable of experiencing the wish.
Since opening in 2001, Comfort Keepers of the Piedmont, Charlotte and Hickory area has helped thousands of families, served 10 counties and provided almost 2 million hours of service to seniors, the company said in a news release.
“This year marks our 15th anniversary,” said owner Lori Eberly. “A Senior’s Wish is our chance to celebrate and brighten seniors’ lives with an opportunity they might never have been able to pursue on their own. It’s our way of giving back to the community that has supported us these past 15 years.”
Finalists will be selected, through a panel of judges formed by Comfort Keepers, based on adherence to age and residence requirements, integrity of the nominee, senior’s community involvement, impact that granting of the wish would have on the nominee and the ability and practicality of administering the wish. Winners will then be selected by review of written entries and/or phone interviews.
Winners will be announced in October.
