Letter: Gas prices rise fast, come down slowly

Well they’re gouging us again.
Many people don’t realize that the price of oil has dropped $12 per barrel since gas spiked to $2.29 per gallon. Oil is in the $52/barrel range. It has dropped $25/barrel since the $3 per gallon spike in pump prices.
The wholesale price of gas has dropped 20 cents per gallon since the $2.29/gallon spike. Just up the road in Thomasville, gas is $2.04 per gallon. They think we’re happy with gas at $2.25-2.28 per gallon. They knew if it dropped back to under $2.50/gallon, people would be all warm and fuzzy inside. Problem is, it’s a mild winter, and they’re trying to make up for it by keeping the gas prices high.
It’s amazing that gas goes up virtually overnight but takes weeks and months to come back down. Gas should be under $2 per gallon if it actually followed the price of wholesale gas, plus the federal and state tax, delivery fee and the 3 cents per gallon profit they always claim to make. Also, did anyone besides me notice that the price went up immediately after the election? I mean, the very next day it started going up.
