CHINA GROVE — Maxine Walters Deal, 82, 240 Basil Road, died Jan. 9, 2007, at her home.

Born June 4, 1924, in Rowan County, Mrs. Deal was a daughter of the late Robert and Viola Bradshaw Walters.

A graduate of China Grove High School, she was a member of Woodman of the World and Mount Zion United Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday School in the children’s department, volunteered as a secretary and participated in the Golden Agers group.

A homemaker, she also was an assistant at China Grove Elementary School.

Her husband, B. Bernard Deal, died July 4, 1989.

Survivors include sons Ronnie and Donnie Deal, both of China Grove; companion Bittle Deal, China Grove; brother Oscar Walters, Virginia; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A service was held Thursday (Jan. 11, 2007) at Mount Zion United Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. William Campbell. Entombment, West Lawn Memorial Park mausoleum.

Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home was in charge.
