Ruth W. Brumley

Ruth Wike Brumley, 81, Concord Place Assisted Living Center, fomerly of 8600 Smith Road, died Friday (Jan. 12, 2007) at Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus after a three-week illness.

Born Aug. 12, 1925, in Alexander County, Mrs. Brumley was a daughter of the late William Lawrence and Cleo Deal Wike.

She worked for Cannon Mills for 45 years while raising her family on a farm in Enochville.

A member of Kannapolis West A Street Church of God, she sang in the choir, served as president of the Queen Esther Sunday School Class and participated in the Lydia Ladies Circle.

While her health permitted, she volunteered with Hospice, Meals on Wheels, Big Elm Nursing Center and NorthEast Medical Center and sang in the YMCA Senior Citizens Choir.

Her husband of 49 years, Raymond C. Brumley, died in 1994.

Survivors include sons Wayne Brumley, Thomasville, and Gary L. Brumley, Kannapolis; sisters Mary Lou Kerley, Taylorsville, and Janice Roscoe, Joyce Adams, both of Kannapolis; brother Harold Wike, Kannapolis; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

A service was held Sunday (Jan. 14, 2007) at Kannapolis West A Street Church of God, conducted by the Rev. Sam Crisp and the Rev. Perry Lemmons. Burial, Monday, Bethpage United Methodist Church cemetery.

Whitley’s Funeral Home was in charge.
