CHARLOTTE — Charlotte guard Leemire Goldwire is the first to admit that he’s not 100 percent healed from offseason surgery and injuries suffered earlier in the 2006-2007 season.

But a 90-percent Goldwire was more than Dayton could handle, as he scored 24 of his career-high 30 points in the final eight minutes of the first half in the 49ers’ 80-57 victory over the Flyers on Wednesday night.

Carlos Williams and De’Angelo Alexander had 13 points each and E.J. Drayton added 11 for Charlotte (8-8, 2-2 Atlantic 10), which won its second consecutive league game.

“This was a big win, and we needed it,” said 49ers head coach Bobby Lutz, whose team tied a season high with 11 3-pointers against Dayton.

Va. Commonwealth 74, UNC Wilmington 65

RICHMOND, Va. — Jesse Pellot-Rosa made five 3-pointers and scored a career-high 24 points as Virginia Commonwealth rallied for a 74-65 victory against UNC Wilmington.

Tulane 65, ECU 56

GREENVILLE — Donnie Stith’s double-double helped push Tulane past East Carolina 65-56.

John Fields’ 17 points led ECU (5-11, 0-3).

High Point 77, Liberty 71

HIGH POINT — Arizona Reid scored 21 points to lead High Point to a 77-71 win over Liberty.

BC SUSPENSIONS

BOSTON — Boston College center Sean Williams and forward Akida McLain, both suspended earlier this season, have been dismissed permanently from the program because of an unspecified violation of team rules.

Williams was suspended for the first two games of the season for an unspecified violation of team rules; McLain for nine.

The 6-foot-10 Williams, third among shot blockers in the NCAA, started 15 games this season, averaging 12.1 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.0 blocks per game.
