Ruth P. Meeks, 83, Kannapolis, died Saturday (Jan. 20, 2007).

Born May 20, 1923 in Rowan County, Mrs. Meeks was a daughter of the late George W. and Gurtha Earnhardt Phillips.

She retired from the weave room at Cannon Mills Plant 1 and also worked many years at Shadybrook School cafeteria.

She was a member of West Point Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and participated in the tape ministry for shut-ins.

Her husband, James T. Meeks, preceded her in death.

Survivors include son James Meeks, Kannapolis, daughters Kay Snider, Charlotte, and Shelia Jones, Concord; sisters Virginia Eagle, Kannapolis, and Margaret Whittington, Concord; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A service was held Tuesday (Jan. 23, 2007) at West Point Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. David Lewkowiez and the Rev. Rich Szekely. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Whitley’s Funeral Home was in charge.
