Area Sports Briefs: Wins for South, Salisbury soccer

South Rowan’s soccer team beat East Rowan, 3-0, on Tuesday for a win in the South Piedmont Conference.
German Delgado, Eber Tapia and Logan Carter scored goals. Cameron Corriher had the shutout in goal for the Raiders.

Hickory Ridge won, 9-0, against West Rowan. Caleb Gillespie scored four goal for the Bulls.

Zach Kocher, Colin Noone and Taylor Silman scored two goals each as Cox Mill beat Carson, 9-0.

Salisbury won, 4-2, at Thomasville in CCC action on Tuesday.
Andrew Kalogeromitros had a hat trick for the Hornets, while Brandon Ibanez had one goal.
Salisbury got assists from Santiago Caballero, Angel Quintero and Juan Silva.
SHS fell behind 1-0 moments into the match. The Hornets leveled at 1-all when Melvin Bonilla was fouled in the box, and Kalogeromitros converted the PK.
Kalogeromitros’ goal on a corner delivered by Caballero gave the Hornets a 2-1 halftime lead.
After Thomasville made it 2-all early in the second half, Ibanez scored on a long throw for a 3-2 SHS lead.
Kalogeromitros was stopped on a PK, but the The Hornets made it 4-2 when Silva carried the ball to the enplane and sent a backwards diagonal ball that Kalogeromitros one-timed into the back of the net.
Salisbury got excellent play from the tandem of Bryan Cortez and Luke Holland, who were responsible for marking the high- scoring Welton Locklear (leading the CCC in goals) and playmaking Omar Asumu (leading the CCC in assists).
Jack Fisher recorded seven saves in goal.
The victory puts the Hornets (10-2-4) alone atop the CCC at 3-0-1. Lexington is 2-0-1 and Thomasville is 1-1. Lexington and Thomasville battle tonight.
Salisbury takes on East Davidson at Ludwig Stadium on Monday. Game times are 5:30 and 7:00.

The Salisbury jayvee team topped Thomasville, 4-3, for its first win of the season.

Prep cross country
A.L. Brown’s Brandon Hernandez won the boys Cabarrus County Championship at Frank Liske Park in 16:52 on Tuesday.

Prep volleyball
Breanna Lentz had six blocks and eight kills for South Rowan in Monday’s loss to Carson.
Hannah Lambert had eight kills and 22 digs.

In CCC action on Tuesday, Salisbury swept Lexington to stay tied for second place. North Rowan lost to league-leading West Davidson in a sweep.

Jayvee soccer
Addison Gilliam had a hat trick for South Rowan in a 5-0 win against East Rowan. Nevada Downs and Tony Zempoatecatl also scored.

Jayvee football
Due to threatening weather, Salisbury has moved jayvee football from Thursday to tonight. The Hornets will host East Davidson at 7:30 p.m.

Local golf
Seventy-one GARS members played a Texas Scramble at Corbin Hills.
The first-place team with a minus-10 consisted of David Adams, Larry Fowler, Bob Niekras and Johnny Shook.
Two teams finished with a minus-8. The team of Winston Mahaffey, Bobby Clark, Clive Mahaffey and Buddy Barger won a scorecard playoff with the team of Don Bishop, Bill Reid, Bobby Whitesides and Tom Seamon.
Two teams tied for fourth place with a minus- 6. The team of Ken Miller, Dick Hatoway, Donald Smith and Bill Saunders bested Ray Pope, Gordon Correll and Phil Cauble in a scorecard playoff.
Closest to the pin on No. 2 was Ernest Wagner. Donald Smith won longest putt.

The Corbin Hills Women’s Golf Association played its annual two-day Judy Cristman Fall Championship.
The winner was Kristi Laton. Second in the Championship Flight was Susan Morris. Azalee Story finished third.
Tammie Drew won the Second Flight, with Mary Seaford second and Ruth Bowles third.

College golf
Catawba’s men finished in eighth place at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate with rounds of 296 and 297.
The Duke ‘B’ team ran away with the title, topping Lincoln Memorial by 27 shots. Catawba’s Trey Burton was ninth, shooting 74-70 — 144. Jordan Taylor shot 73-72 — 145 for 13th.

In the Wolfpack Intercollegiate, Davis Richards (South Rowan) shot 75-74-66 — 215 and tied for 20th.
Richards made seven birdies while shooting 5-under 66 on Tuesday.
George Mason’s Eric Edwards (Salisbury) shot 67-76-74 — 217 in the Wolfpack Intercollegiate and finished tied for 31st.
Also in the Wolfpack Intercollegiate, East Carolina freshman Logan Shuping (East Rowan) shot 77-70-77 — 224 and tied for 59th. USC Upstate’s Andrew Purcell (Carson) shot 81-76-82 — 239 and tied for 84th.

In the women’s Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate, UNC Pembroke’s Alexandria Bare (South Rowan) shot 77-83 — 216 and tied for 34th.

Prep golf
In Monday’s CCC match at Sapona Ridge, West Davidson shot 116 and won easily.
Salisbury shot 183 and finished fourth.
West Davidson’s Rachel Mast was medalist with a 34.
Madison Day’s 60 led Salisbury.

Hurley YMCA
J.F. Hurley YMCA is registering players for Little Shooters basketball (boys and girls, Pre-k to first grade) and girls basketball (grades 2-8).

NCHSAA
Gina Kim of Chapel Hil and Marcus Cowell of Pasquotank are the NCHSAA Performance of the Week winners.
Cowell, a senior running back, rushed for 231 yards and four touchdowns as the Panthers nipped rival Currituck 34-33 on Friday.
Kim, a junior golfer, participated in the prestigious Junior Ryder Cup international team competition and contributed two points to the US 15.5-8.5 victory.

Mid. school football
North Rowan won, 30-0, against Knox on Tuesday in seventh-grade football.
