The Brown Eyed Suzy is an upscale vintage shop, featuring handmade vintage and vintage-inspired furniture, home decor, art, clothing, accessories, artisan jewelry, candles and soaps. A variety of styles to suit any budget and taste is offered. The shop stocks primitive, cottage, farmhouse, industrial and rustic.

About 90 percent of the items are locally-sourced or created by local artists. Most collections are curated from private sellers and people cleaning out homes, as well as auctions, flea markets and estate sales.

Owner Barbara Fuller is a native of Salisbury and gets great joy in finding items and objects to repurpose into her eclectic jewelry, accessories, clothing and bags. She also loves finding creative local talent to help supply the store with a variety of upscale unique items for customers to choose from.

Fuller has been creating items for more years than she would like to admit. She grew up with parents that were avid antique collectors always attending auctions and traveling the world to find unique pieces. She is passionate about rescuing old items, updating them and giving them a new life. Where others might see junk, she finds beauty and usefulness in each piece she creates.

Fuller is always interested in purchasing vintage jewelry, buttons, silver-plated pieces, linens, ironstone dishware and furniture.

The grand opening is scheduled for Oct. 15, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Normal business hours are Saturdays only, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and by appointment.

The Brown Eyed Suzy is located at 113 W. Innes St.

Country Club of Salisbury hosting first annual Healthcare Gala

Rowan County’s first annual Healthcare Gala is fast approaching.

The event, hosted at the Country Club of Salisbury, will be held on Thursday, Oct. 13 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The focus of the event will be to celebrate and recognize the social workers and case managers within Rowan County for their tireless efforts in managing the vast needs of their patients.

The event is open to the public with the purchase of a $26 ticket. Tickets may be purchased at the door. Guests will enjoy live music, a cash bar and a variety of hors d’oeuvres while networking with fellow Rowan health care providers.

Racial and Social Equity Workshop to be held Oct. 14 and 15

The Human Praxis Institute, LLC is convening a 12-hour Racial & Social Equity Workshop on Oct. 14 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. and Oct. 15 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at EastSquare Artworks, 120 E. Innes St.

With an emphasis on multiculturalism and intersectionality and using a restorative justice framework, trainer Al Heggins will provide participants with the tools and practical skills needed to dismantle the learned behaviors and practices that perpetuate racial and social inequities.

Against the historical backdrop of racial and social disparities, this highly interactive workshop will provide participants with an analysis and dissection of oppressive systems, a review of data and invoke rich discussion that opens the doors to trust, healing and transformation.

This workshop is appropriate for college students, educators, government officials, health care and legal professionals, law enforcement, small business owners, community activists, houses of worship and corporate entities.

Participants will leave with practical ways to address inequities in the community, houses of worship and in the workplace.

Only 30 seats are available. The cost is $175 per person, which covers two meals, snacks, materials and training.
