We have always heard “the 5 level belongs to the opponents.” You need 11 tricks to make the contract, not always so easy to do. If you have bid to push opponents to the 5 level but have a good fit with partner you must decide whether to push on, double, or pass.
Common wisdom is to pass. But if you know you have a 5 level contract, another option and maybe the best one is to consider a minor suit small slam.
As always, you must consider the bidding of all players and your expected fit with your partner to advance your bid.
