SALISBURY — Two people were injured following a two-vehicle crash Saturday on Neel Road, off N.C. 150. Highway Patrol officials said one of those injured is a local 16-year-old.

The crash occurred at 1:27 p.m.

Officials said Chandler Alan Jones, 23, of Salisbury, was traveling north on Neel Road in a 2005 Jeep when he exited a curve to the right side of the road. He ran off the road, overcorrected to the left side and lost control. Jones’ vehicle slid across the center line and struck a 2008 Toyota passenger car driven by 16-year-old Nicholas Jonathan Newton, also of Salisbury.

After the impact, Jones’ vehicle overturned and came to rest on its roof. Newton’s car, which was southbound on Neel Road came to rest in a ditch.

Both drivers were injured and taken by Rowan EMS to the hospital, Jones to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem and Newton to Carolinas Medical Center NorthEast in Concord. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

Jones was charged with driving left of center.
