SALISBURY — TGH Behavioral, which started out in a cramped two-room suite, has now moved into a building at 470-A Jake Alexander Blvd.

TGH Behavioral Health Services Inc. celebrated its grand opening on Oct. 13.

It provides peer support services for adults with mental health or substance use disorder, outpatient therapy, including individual and family psychotherapy and comprehensive clinical assessments.

The business used to be housed in a building on Main Street. Tajuana Hooker, co-owner, said the building flooded and since they needed more space anyways, they decided to move into the building on Jake Alexander Boulevard.

Hooker said some of her family members suffer from substance abuse and mental health issues.

“I’ve always wanted to be someone who helped and cared for others,” she said.

Hooker and Tonya Rankin, the other co-owner, went to the same high school, Salisbury High School. In 2010 they began brainstorming the idea of starting a business together and finally got a business off the ground about a year and a half ago.

Staff includes a quality management and training director, clinical director, compliance director, licensed professional counselors, qualified mental health professionals, qualified substance abuse professionals and an N.C. certified peer support specialist.

Rankin said it was a blessing and an honor to be in a new, expanded space.

“God has definitely been good to us,” she said.

She said the clinic’s motto is, “It’s not about where you’ve been, it’s about where you’re headed.”

All of the services provided by TGH Behavioral Health Services are funded by Medicaid and clients must be eligible for Medicaid to receive services.

The clinic works by appointment and also has walk-in hours Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
