Area briefs: Livingstone splits with Virginia Union

Jonta Moss scored 18 points to lead Livingstone’s women’s basketball team to a 70-62 home win against Virginia Union on Monday.
The Blue Bears (8-12, 6-8 CIAA) led 34-28 at halftime thanks to 15 points from Moss. They scored 39 points off 25 turnovers from Virginia Union (7-11, 4-9).
The Panthers pulled within 59-58 with 2:23 left, but Kim Westray (13 points) hit a layup 20 seconds later. Seven of Livingstone’s final nine points came at the free-throw line.
Lina Brown totalled 10 points and seven boards, and Chelsea Johnson had six assists, six rebounds, three steals and no turnovers.
n Virginia Union’s men beat Livingstone 67-52.
The Blue Bears (6-13, 4-10 CIAA) trailed 28-18 at halftime. Christopher Worley led the way with 14 points and five steals.
Chris Greene paced the Panthers (13-4, 10-4) with 16 points.
n Hipps scores 12 in loss
Sophilia Hipps (North Rowan) scored 12 points for South Carolina State’s women’s basketball team in a 72-63 MEAC loss to Maryland-Eastern Shore on Monday.
Hipps played 29 minutes and went 6-for-9 from the line.
n Jaguars win over SH
Salisbury Academy’s varsity girls basketball team defeated Sacred Heart 27-13.
The Jaguars (14-5, 6-1) were led by Carley Drye, Alee Johnson, Hannah Coulter, Erika Nelson and Joy Loeblein.
