Rev. Norton and family join Oakdale

SPENCER — Oakdale Baptist Church, 200 Charles St. is pleased to welcome Pastor Jeffrey T. Norton to be our senior pastor. There will be an installation service on Sunday, Nov. 6 during the 11 a.m. worship service.
Pastor Jeff comes to us from Rock Hill, S.C. where he was serving as associate pastor of College Park Baptist Church. Pastor Jeff is married to Caron and they have six children.
Pastor Jeff is committed to prayer and verse by verse teaching of the Bible. He loves to visit and is a hands-on leader who will be involved in the activities of Oakdale. He believes a successful church and pastor are those that are faithful to the Word of God and growing in the Word.
First Presbyterian welcomes Dr. LaBonte

First Presbyterian Church, at the corner of S. Fulton and W. Innes Streets, welcomes its new senior pastor, transitional, Dr. Tom LaBonte, to the pulpit Sunday.
Prior to obtaining credentials from Union Presbytery in Charlotte, his background was in corporate banking and human resources. He holds a Doctor of Education with proven leadership as a Marine in Vietnam, along with 21 years combined service in the US Marine and Army Reserves, retiring at the rank of Major. He has a passion for ancient history, is an Eagle Scout, and a published author. Tom and his wife, Starann, live in Huntersville.
On Sunday is also All Saints’ Sunday with a time of remembrance for members who have died in the last year. Worship services are at 8:30 and 11 a.m. in the sanctuary and at 8:50 a.m. in Lewis Hall. Holy Communion will be served during the 8:50 service.

Veteran Recognition Service

The Chancel Choir, led by Matthew Michael Brown, will offer excerpts from Maurice Duruflé’s setting of the Requiem, Op. 9, accompanied by cello, harp, and organ. Other music includes Gabriel Fauré’s “Cantique de Jean Racine,” Massenet’s “Méditation” from Thaïs and Duruflé’s “Fugue sur le nom d’Alain” as the closing organ voluntary.

Immanuel Lutheran to honor Veterans
ROCKWELL— Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2070 Emanuel Church Road, will celebrate Veteran’s Day on Sunday during the 11 a.m. service. Special guest speaker will be Immanuel member Staff Sergeant Lewis “Buddy” Leazer, a United States Marine who served six years of active duty near the end of the Vietnam War. Leazer’s sister, Judy Harwood, will sing the National Anthem. Veterans may wish to wear their uniforms or any insignia indicating the branch of service in which they served.
The Rev. Bruce Sheek, host pastor, will administer the sacrament of Holy Communion.

Solid Rock Church of God, 1004 Locke St., will celebrate the ninth pastoral anniversary of the Rev. Samuel A. Washington, ThM, on Sunday. Rev. Anthony McCullough, associate minister of youth and Christian education, will deliver the 11 a.m. message. At 4 p.m., the Rev. Cornelius N. Atkinson, pastor of Wilson Heights First Church of God in Charlotte and chairman of the NC General Assembly of the Church of God (Anderson, Ind.), will be the guest preacher.

WOODLEAF – Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church, 435 Carson Road, will observe its 146th church anniversary on Sunday at 11 a.m. The theme for the anniversary is “ Continuing On The Mt. Vernon Journey 1870 – … A Work in Progress”. Dr. Emery Rann, current pastor, will preach. The first church structure was built in 1870 with John Marlin Sr. as carpenter. The current church structure was erected in 1890 under the pastorate of Rev. Crawford The land upon which the building stands was purchased for $4.00.
