FAYETTEVILLE — Suzy Goodwin, a 1999 graduate of East Rowan High, successfully completed the N.C. Halloween Half Marathon Sunday, pushing her 1-year-old triplets in a stroller the whole way.
In finishing, Goodwin established a Guinness World Record for pushing triplets in a half marathon. (She was the first to do it.)
Goodwin completed the race in two hours, 1 minute and 16 seconds. Speaking to WTVD Raleigh after the race, Goodwin said she ran the race for God and the staff at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where her triplets — Gideon, Gabriel and Charlotte — spent two months in the neonatal intensive care unit before coming home.
The race was run close to the one-year anniversary of the triplets’ coming home. Goodwin said Sunday there were a lot of points in the race where she didn’t think she was going to make it, but she described being able to finish as an awesome and invigorating feeling.
The Salisbury Post featured Goodwin and her try at the world record in its Oct. 19 edition.
