CHAPEL HILL — Joel Berry II scored 18 points to help North Carolina beat Chattanooga.
Kennedy Meeks added 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Tar Heels (2-0), who have won 15 straight home openers. UNC shot 56 percent through the first 24 minutes in building a lopsided lead, pushing ahead for good with a 21-5 run late in the first half for a 44-33 lead at the break.
The Tar Heels then scored nine straight out of the break to blow it open.
Kenny Williams III finished with six rebounds, five assists and three steals in 20 minutes. And that came after he had five rebounds and four assists in the opener against Tulane on Friday for the Tar Heels (2-0), inheriting a larger role with junior swingman Theo Pinson out with a broken right foot.
Greg Pryor scored 17 points for the Mocs (1-1), who won Friday at Tennessee.

WINSTON-SALEM — Keyshawn Woods scored 22 points with five of Wake Forest’s 13 3-pointers in a 94-74 win over Bucknell on Sunday.
John Collins added 19 points and Mitchell Wilbekin had 13 to help the Demon Deacons (2-0) sweep a short, season-opening homestand, with this win coming less than 48 hours after a 21-point rout of Radford.
Dinos Mitoglou finished with 11 points and Austin Arians had 10 for Wake Forest, which shot 50 percent both from the field and behind the arc, while matching a high for 3-pointers under third-year coach Danny Manning.

RALEIGH — Ted Kapita scored 17 points in his debut to help the Wolfpack beat St. Francis Brooklyn, 86-61, on Sunday.
Torin Dorn added 21 points for N.C. State (2-0), which shot 59 percent.
Kapita, a freshman from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, sat out the Wolfpack’s season-opening win over Georgia Southern on Friday because the NCAA was reviewing his eligibility.
The 6-foot-8 forward came off the bench to make 7 of 8 shots and grab eight rebounds in 24 minutes.
Abdul-Malik Abu and Dennis Smith Jr. had 12 points apiece for N.C. State, and Terry Henderson scored 11.
The Wolfpack played without swingman Maverick Rowan, who reported feeling concussion-like symptoms after scoring 17 in Friday’s victory over Georgia Southern.

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Isaiah Briscoe and De’Aaron Fox each scored a career-high 21 points, Malik Monk added 16 and No. 2 Kentucky pulled away from Canisius early in the second half for a 93-69 victory Sunday night.
Briscoe topped his previous high of 20 last December at UCLA behind 9-of-13 shooting that helped Kentucky (2-0) rally from a seven-point first half deficit to build a 44-35 halftime advantage.

Women’s basketball
Morehead State’s Shay Steele (West Rowan) had 20 points (on 9-for-14 shooting), six rebounds and three assists in a 78-73 win against Eastern Michigan on Sunday. Steele was named MVP of the Donna Murphy Classic.
“Shay had one of the best overall games of her career,” coach Greg Todd said. “Once she gets some confidence, she explodes.”

The WSSU Rams (9-2) are seeded seventh in Super Region One and play at No. 2 Long Island Post in the first round of the D-II playoffs this Saturday.

South Atlantic Confernce champ Newberry earned the No. 2 seed in Super Region Two, its highest seeding in school history, and will play host to seventh-seeded Tuskegee Saturday at 1 p.m. in the first round of the D-II playoffs.

College cross country
TALLAHAASSEE, Fla. – Georgia Southern wrapped-up the cross country season on Friday with a 28th-place finish at the South Regional.
Rebecca Parker (West Rowan) was the second runner for Georgia Southern, finishing the 6K event in 23:12.

College volleyball
Barton won the Conference Carolinas Tournament by beating Erskine.
Erskine beat Belmont Abbey in the semifinals.
Aimee Cloninger (Carson) had 14 kills and 10 digs for Belmont Abbey.

Wingate won, 3-0, against Limestone and advanced to the Southeast Regional championship match against Pfeiffer.
