SALISBURY — On Veterans Day, Sacred Heart Catholic School faculty and Student Government Association hosted the school’s yearly Veteran’s Day Morning Assembly and Breakfast. Sacred Heart was privileged to have 40 veterans attend.

“We are so thankful that Sacred Heart and its students had the opportunity to honor them, to serve them and to offer words and prayers of our heartfelt appreciation,” Robin Fisher, director of marketing and communications said in an e-mail.

Sacred Heart kindergarten students had the extra privilege of two veterans’ visits Wednesday morning: Colette Miller, who served in the U.S. Navy from 1973-1978, and Shannon Regan, who served in the U.S. Army from 2005-2010.

Miller and Regan did a short presentation about their branches of services and provided the students with a scrapbook of their pictures of service. Students had many questions about the uniform that Regan brought for “show and tell,” and even more questions about the obstacle courses from basic training. Kindergarten students gave homemade pencil flags to the veterans.

The school would like to extend thanks to the Salisbury High School Color Guard, led by Sergeant Smith, who presented for Friday’s assembly and to guest speaker Sheriff Kevin Auten who reminded students of the history of Veteran’s Day, the privilege we all have in our freedom and the humility we should have in our hearts for our veterans and current servicemen and women.
