KANNAPOLIS — Justin Jirschele has been named the 12th manager of the Kannapolis Intimidators.
In addition to becoming the first former Intimidators player to manage the club, Jirshele (pronounced “JIRSH-lee”) will likely be the youngest manager in affiliated Minor League Baseball. He’ll be 26 on opening day and will turn 27 on April 15.
Jirschele, who played infield for Kannapolis in 2013, began his coaching career in 2015 as the hitting coach of Advanced Rookie Great Falls and spent the 2016 campaign in the same role for the Intimidators.
He will be joined by pitching coach Matt Zaleski, hitting coach Jamie Dismuke, athletic trainer Joe Geck and strength and conditioning coach Goldy Simmons.

Men’s hoops
Behind a 56-point first half, the Pfeiffer men’s basketball team improved to 3-0 for the first time since the 2006-07 season with an 82-58 win at Brevard on Wednesday night.
Junior Josh Calhoun had a game-high 24 points and knocked down six three pointers to lead the Falcons to victory.
Andrew Guerrero added 12 points for the Falcons and A.J. Clark chipped in with 11.

Lynchburg’s Alex Allen (Carson) had four points and two assists in a win against William Peace.

College soccer
The D2CCA men’s soccer All-Southeast Region team has been announced, with six Falcons earning the honor. Nathan Regis, Jaime Siaj, Martim Galvao and Dani Siaj earned a first team distinction.
Regis was named Regional Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.
