Rowan County has received another offer for its empty Department of Social Services building.

The newest offer is $60,227. It comes from a man named Michael Sholtis from Holly Springs. His $60,227 offer covers an unused building at 1236 West Innes St. and parcels of adjacent land, including a large parking lot.

The offer from Sholtis beat a $50,000 offer from Salisbury resident James Sauls. Jr.

It’s the latest of several offers on the building since Rowan County commissioners started an upset bid process earlier this year.

County Clerk Carolyn Barger on Monday said a realtor representing an out-of-state client came to the county’s administrative offices on Monday and expressed interest in purchasing the building. Barger said the person is not one of the several who have already submitted a bid on the property.

During an in-person auction this summer, the building received no bids. At that time, it was also discovered that mold and mildew were growing in the building. County officials have also disclosed that the building contains some asbestos.
