James Hughes Jr.
James Henry Hughes Jr., 77, Dearfield Ridge Assisted Living Center, Boone, formerly of Concord, died June 6, 2007, at Life Care Center, Banner Elk, after several years of declining health.
Born April 14, 1930, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Hughes was a son of the late James H. and Jenny Pauline McCorkle Hughes.
Educated in Kannapolis City Schools, he graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He worked as a parole officer with the N.C. Probation Office in Cabarrus County until retiring in 1984.
He was a Lutheran.
Survivors include wife Carolyn Teague Hughes; daughter Beth Jeanette Hughes, Deep Gap, and brother DeWitt Hughes, Yadkinville.
A graveside service was held Thursday (June 7, 2007) at Carolina Memorial Park mausoleum, conducted by the Rev. T.C. Plexico.
