Davie QB Chris Reynolds was named the Central Piedmont Conference Offensive Player of the Year.
Davie linebacker James Boyle was named CPC Defensive Player of the Year.
Davie linebacker Cody Hendrix, defensive back Hite Merrifield, receivers Cooper Wall and Beau Byerly and offensive lineman Luke Pratapas were named All-CPC.
Davie’s Jared Griggs was the CPC Punter of the Year.
Davie coach Tim Devericks was named CPC Coach of the Year.

Davie’s Laura Becker was named the CPC Player of the Year, and Davie’s Sierra Foster, Claire Myers, Amanda Ngo and Jennifer Ngo were All-CPC.

East girls win
East Rowan’s girls got their first South Piedmont Conference win on Friday by beating Northwest Cabarrus, 38-29, in Granite Quarry.
Freshman Adalie Harrison scored 14 points to lead the Mustangs (2-4, 1-4). Caroline Houpe scored seven.
Ashleigh Thomson scored 10 to lead the Trojans.
East scored 25 points in the second half to break open a close game.
“We moved the ball well in the second half, got out on the break some and played with a lot more energy,” East coach Kevin Holland said.
Northwest remained winless.
“It was a pretty good game,” Holland said. “Size-wise it was an even matchup and both teams are young.”

East boys fall
One bad quarter doomed the East Rowan boys, who had a chance to knock off Northwest Cabarrus at home.
The Trojans took a 62-57 win.
“We outscored them in three quarters,” East coach Kurt Misenheimer said. “But that second quarter got us.”
East was plagued by foul trouble in the second quarter and was outscored, 32-10.
“It was a perfect storm, and everything rolled their way in that one quarter,” Misenheimer said. “We were in foul trouble and got killed on the boards.”
Sophomore Elton Hooper scored a career-best 20 points for the Mustangs.
Brandon Jefferson and Lucas Morton had nine points each.
Fredo Gustave scored 14 to spark the Trojans.
“We finished very strong,” Misenheimer said.

Salisbury boys lose

Down 21 points at halftime at Greensboro Smith, Salisbury made a furious comeback before losing to the Eagles, 72-70.
Tre Oats had 19 points, 14 rebounds and eight blocks for the Hornets.
Will Leckonby made six 3-pointers and scored 24 points for the Hornets (4-2). Trell Baker had 21 points.
Tyrece Cheek scored 27 for Greensboro Smith. He had 21 in the first half. Salisbury coach Bryan Withers credited Shaleek Williams with slowing down Cheek in the second half.
Both of Salisbury’s losses have come in close games with Smith.
“We defended like crazy in the second half,” Withers said. “We got down, but we didn’t back down. I couldn’t be prouder of the effort we had.”

This year’s basketball action will commence at Bojangles Coliseum on Feb. 21 and 22 with early round game sessions, and continue with the quarterfinals, semifinals, and championship finals at Spectrum Center, formerly known as Time Warner Cable Arena, on Feb. 23 through 25.

MyQuon Stout (Carson) started every game at nose tackle for App State.
He had 19 tackles and three tackles for loss. He was Honorable Mention on the All-Sun Belt team.

Cooper Wall scored 17 points to lead five Davie players in double figures in a 77-60 win at A.L. Brown on Thursday.

Gabby Smith scored 18 points to lead Hickory Ridge to a 69-35 win against Robinson in SPC play on Thursday.

8th-grade boys
Erwin boys defeated West Rowan. Leading the Eagles were Sammy Pinckney with 10 points, Landon Shuping with nine, Ryan Lee with eight, and Edison White with 7.

8th-grade girls
The Knox girls defeated China Grove 33-21.
Jahavanique Horton led Knox (7-2) with 15 points.
Allie Tuck, Janiya Bolder, Lavonda Moody and Ellen Yang had four points each.
China Grove was led by Jillian Dunn with 11 points and Bailey Webster and Madison Berry with four each.

Prep baseball
The NCHSAA Board of Directors concluded its annual winter meeting last week. Among the items of discussion was the baseball pitch count mandated by the National Federation for State High School Assocations.
The approved Pitch Count rule requires a number of required calendar days of rest based on the number of pitches thrown, up to a maximum of 105 pitches in a single day. Pitch count applies only to pitches during an at bat and allows a pitcher to finish an at bat if he reaches the 105 pitch maximum.

The Sacred Heart varsity boys lost to Hickory Christian, 42-32.
Nick Antosek led the Dolphins with 10 points. Will Webb and Ben Childress had seven each.
