From staff reports
Davie County quarterback Chris Reynolds was named as one of the replacements for the North Carolina Shrine Bowl squad on Monday.
A Charlotte 49ers commit, Reynolds threw 29 touchdown passes and three for 2,514 yards as he led Davie to a 12-2 season and the third round of the 4A state playoffs.
Reynolds also had 10 rushing TDs and is an exceptionally mobile quarterback.
The Central Piedmont Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Reynolds missed two early games with an ankle injury, so his production came in 12 games.
It’s possible Reynolds will see action at receiver as well as quarterback.
The Shrine Bowl game is this Saturday in Spartanburg, S.C., with kickoff set for 2 p.m.

West Rowan’s record-breaking receiver Kortez Weeks got a Shrine Bowl call on Sunday.
Weeks has been terrific in the early going for West’s basketball team, but it will be back to football for him this week.
State championship games in both North Carolina and South Carolina were pushed back a week to allow schools affected by Hurricane Matthew time to reschedule their games.
In North Carolina, that meant eight state championship-bound players are unable to participate in the Shrine Bowl — Will Jones and Javon Leake of Greensboro Page, Xach Gill and Darius Hodge of Wake Forest, Hendon Hooker and Bryson Speas of Greensboro Dudley, Sherrod Greene of Rocky Mount and Jayden Borders of Shelby.
Jones and Hooker are quarterbacks.
The Shrine Bowl is the oldest high school all-star game in the nation, dating back to 1937. It’s played to benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children across the country.
