East Rowan choral concert

On Monday, Dec. 19, the 145-voice choral department of East Rowan High School will present its winter concert. The concert consists of a wide range of music from “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” to Mariah Carey’s “One Child.” The concert will be held in the school’s auditorium at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. Dean Orbison is in his 21st year as choral director at East Rowan.

Last call for Rural Electric Youth Tour applications

EnergyUnited is now accepting applications for the 2017 Rural Electric Youth Tour, where two students will win a free, all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., June 10-16, 2017. Students who attend the Youth Tour will join more than 1,500 high school students from across the U.S. to learn about electric cooperatives, American history and the United States government. Students will also visit the historic sites of the nation’s capital.

Applicants must be enrolled in their junior year (rising seniors) and must attend a school that is served by EnergyUnited or be a resident in a county served by EnergyUnited which includes all or parts of: Alexander, Cabarrus, Caldwell, Catawba, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Gaston, Guilford, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Randolph, Rockingham, Rowan, Stokes, Wilkes and Yadkin counties.
