Innospec Cares donates $25,000 to nonprofits, programs in local areas

SPENCER – A new program from Innospec has allowed the local company to donate more than $25,000 to nonprofits and programs in the Rowan County and High Point areas.
Innospec Performance Chemicals’ corporate office has started a new program called Innospec Cares. The program set aside an additional $150,000 in donation funds. From May 1 to Dec. 31, employees could apply to get up to $5,000 for charities or “good cause projects” in their local areas.
The goal of the program was not to replace the usual charitable donations of local branches, but to add to them.
John Struzick, manufacturing financial manager for Innospec, said the corporate office wanted to get involved with the programs the employees really cared about.
And the amount the employees receive is a reflection of what employees are already giving.
“They really wanted to match what the employees were already doing,” Susan Barnhardt, administrative assistant, said.
So far, Innospec Cares has donated funds to Rowan Helping Ministries, Footprints in the Community, the United Way of Rowan County, North Rowan Elementary School’s Engage Program and the Pregnancy Support Center.
The United Way received the full $5,000 donation.
The rest of the $25,000 went to organizations near the Innospec plant in High Point.
The branch has not been turned down for any of the funds they applied for.
The application for the funds includes a place to describe the organization’s mission statement or purpose, how the funds help that mission or purpose and whether the donation is matching funding or direct giving. Employees can even designate the funds to a particular event.
The employees have enjoyed being able to donate the additional funds to the organizations while also learning more about the programs in the community.
“This is where we live and there’s a lot of needs in this community,” Struzick said.
Barnhardt said she hopes the corporate office offers the program again next year so that more organizations can get involved.
“I don’t think you can ever give too much, ever,” Barnhardt said.
