KANNAPOLIS ó Trinity United Methodist Church in Kannapolis invites the community to attend “A Blast from the Past,” its centennial celebration kickoff event on Sunday.
Sunday’s activities will be the first in a yearlong series of events celebrating the church’s 100th anniversary. Fellowship time will be held from 9-9:30 a.m.; Sunday school begins at 9:30; and worship will be at 10:30 a.m. A covered-dish luncheon will follow the worship service.
Guest preacher for the worship service will be the Rev. Dr. C. Denny White Jr.

St. Matthews Lutheran
The Worship and Music Committee of St. Matthews Lutheran Church is sponsoring a performance of the East Rowan Honors Chorus at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall following the concert. The public is invited and everyone is asked to bring food items for Rowan Helping Ministries.
The East Rowan Honors Chorus is an auditioned group of about 40 students, directed by Dean Orbison. The chorus consistently receives superior ratings at state festivals in the highest level of music competition and has been named Grand Champion Choir in national festivals in Florida, Virginia, South Carolina and North Carolina.
Orbison has won many awards, including East Rowan Teacher of the Year. He is a founding member of the southern gospel trio One Faith.

Shiloh Reformed
FAITH ó Shiloh reformed Church of Faith will observe Missions Day on Sunday. The Rev. Sam McGinn from Samaritan’s Purse will bring the message during the 11 a.m. morning worship service.
Following the service, there will be a potato/salad bar Missions Day lunch in the fellowship hall. Missions booths, prepared by Shiloh’s Missions Committee, will be set up in the fellowship hall representing the missions ministries of Shiloh which include the following: Samaritan’s Purse, American Bible Society, Nazareth Children’s Home, Rowan Helping Ministries, Habitat for Humanity, Missionaries George and Martha Mixon in Kenya, Africa, East Rowan Bible Program, Shiloh’s youth and adult mission teams and project council, Crop Walk and Good Samaritan Fund.

Good News puppets
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 205 St. Paul’s Church Road, invites adults and youth to come and watch The Good News Crew Puppet Troupe present a program titled “Do You Know My Lord?” Sunday at 6:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary.
The puppet troupe is an outreach ministry of Tyro United Methodist Church in Lexington. This 15-member group travels each weekend from November through March presenting this program. They have been sharing their message in this fun and innovative way for 14 years.
This one hour presentation is full of special lighting effects, unique props, black light puppetry and expressive drama.

Handbell workshop
KANNAPOLIS ó The music departments of First Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis and Bethpage United Methodist Church are co-sponsoring a workshop for handbell ringers on Jan. 23, beginning at 6:30 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church.
The guest instructor will be Robert Ivey, formerly minister of music at First Presbyterian Church in Charlotte.
There will be two sessions: one for beginners at 6:30 p.m., and the second for more experienced ringers at 7:40 p.m.
Ivey is a past president of the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers and served on its board of directors for 12 years. He has taught handbell ringing at Westminster Choir College and Queens College, and also at music conferences at Lake Junaluska and Montreat. In addition, Ivey has published several books on handbell ringing.

Macedonia Baptist
Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 2865 Enon Church Road, will offer three consecutive evenings celebrating the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr.
The guest speaker on Jan. 23 will be the Rev. Dr. George B. Jackson, founding pastor and CEO of Faith Christian Fellowship Inc. of Thomasville.
The Jan. 24 speaker will be the Rev. John Leazer, pastor of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Concord. The Rev. Melvin E. Kesler, pastor of New Shepherd Baptist Church, Cooleemee, will be the speaker on Jan. 25.
Each service begins at 7 p.m.
Rejoice! in Faith
FAITH ó The gospel music trio Rejoice! will be singing at Faith Lutheran Church 7 p.m., Jan. 26. The concert is free, but an offering will be received.
A covered dish meal will be provided by the congregation beginning at 6 p.m. in the family life center. The public is welcome.

All For One choir
STATESVILLE ó The All for One interdenominational community youth choir kick-off will be at 4 p.m. on Feb. 10 at Western Avenue Baptist Church, 1206 Museum Road, Statesville.
Students in grades 6-12 are welcome. The group performs music and drama. No experience is necessary.
