KANNAPOLIS ó Evelyn Auten James, 90, 406 Triece St., died Jan. 20, 2008, at CMC-NorthEast.
Born July 6, 1917, in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late Leroy Banks and Mattie Elizabeth Houston Auten. She retired from the weave room of Cannon Mills Plant No. 4 in Kannapolis. Following her retirement, she volunteered for 15 years at NorthEast Medical Center.
Mrs. James was a member of Memorial Baptist Church where she was active in the Senior Saints Group.
Her husband, Jesse Lee James, died April 4, 1994. Survivors include a daughter, Mildred “Jo” Walter of Kannapolis; sister Martha Haithcock of Kannapolis; two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, at Memorial Baptist Church, the Rev. Tim McQueen and the Rev. Don Davis officiating. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.
