St. Luke’s Episcopal Church invites the public to its 2008 Lenten series, “Hearing God’s Call in Your Life.”
The program will take place Wednesdays, Feb. 13-March 12, beginning at 7 p.m. Sessions will be preceded by worship in the sanctuary at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. There are also activities for children and youth.

Deacons revival
The Rowan and Davie County Deacons Alliance Inc. will be celebrating its 19th anniversary with revival services the week of Feb. 10-15.
On Sunday at 4 p.m. at Jerusalem Baptist Church, Dr. Nilous M. Avery II, pastor of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Salisbury will be the speaker. He will be accompanied by his congregation, choir and ushers. The Rev. David L. Bracken is host pastor.
The remaining services Monday-Friday will be held at New Zion Baptist Church in Granite Quarry at 7 p.m. each evening. Pastor Paul Jones Sr. is host pastor.
The speakers will be as follows: Feb. 11: Pastor Thomas Wyatt Jr. of Dorsett Chapel United Church of Christ, Spencer; Feb. 12: the Rev. Samuel A. Washington of The Solid Rock Church of Christ, Salisbury; Feb. 13: the Rev. Ricky Johnson, pastor of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Granite Quarry; Feb. 14: the Rev. Sonya Ellerbe, pastor of United Christian Fellowship Church, Salisbury; Feb. 15: the Rev. Patrick Jones, associate pastor of New Zion Baptist Church.
The theme for the revival is “Serving Humanity by Inreach and Outreach Through God’s Grace.”
All of the speakers for the revival services will be accompanied by their congregation, choir and ushers.

Lenten lunches
First United Methodist Church of Salisbury is hosting its annual Wednesday Lenten Lunches from noon-1 p.m. in the fellowship hall.
A light lunch will be served, followed by a Lenten worship service. The cost of the lunch is $3 per person.

SPENCER ó Jerusalem Baptist Church’s Pastor’s Aide Society will host its annual Friends and Family Day this Sunday during the 11 a.m. service with an event called “Pack the Pews.”
Linda Stoner, president of the society, will present words of inspiration to challenge the congregation. Special performances by the Jerusalem Praise Team and music will be rendered by a combined choir under the direction of Terrell Fields.

Bethel Baptist
ROCKWELL ó The public is invited to attend a special presentation by the Bob Jones University Truth in Action drama team at Bethel Baptist Church, Rockwell, on Sunday, Feb. 17 at 11 a.m.
The program will feature an original drama, “Every Good and Every Perfect Gift.”
The drama team is touring the southern United States this spring. Members of the group are students at Bob Jones University in Greenville, S. C.
St. Matthews LutheranSunday evening Lenten worship services at St. Matthews Lutheran Church will be based on “The Games People Play.”
This Sunday, the public is invited to a 6 p.m. soup and sandwich supper. Afterwards, Pastor Gary Coble and members of the congregation will present the first service in the series, with the topic “Solitaire.”
Topics for the following weeks are as follows: Feb. 17-Hide ‘n Seek; Feb. 24-Follow the Leader; March 2-King of the Hill; March 9-Twenty Questions.

NorthGate Church
Dr. Hanna Massad will be the guest speaker at NorthGate Church, 1400 W. Jake Alexander Blvd. at 10 a.m. this Sunday.
Massad is the pastor of the only Baptist Church in Gaza. He is at the forefront of the persecuted church in Palestine.
This past week, Massad spoke at the New Covenant Baptist Celebration in Atlanta. Also there were former presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton.

GRANITE QUARRY ó The Pastor Aide of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Granite Quarry, will sponsor an evening of gospel singing today at 5 p.m.
Groups participating include the Disciples of Joy, Spiritual Voices of Boyden Quarters, the Zionettes of Union Chapel, Antioch Male Choir and others.
On Sunday at 3 p.m. the Rev. Gina Long of Potters House Outreach, along with her choir and congregation, will close out this special program.

The new contemporary congregation Eternity Church usually meets at 1406B West Innes St. at 10 a.m.

Event features mZuri
Word of Life Family Worship Center (formerly New Testament Word of Faith) will celebrate Black History month during its annual Black History Program Sunday, Feb. 17 at 4 p.m.
Special guest for the program will be the singer/actress known as mZuri. She will honor historian and freedom fighter Fannie Lou Hamer with a one-woman show depicting her life.
Hamer’s eloquence as a spokeswoman for the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party and her telling of the story of the horrific beating she endured at the hands of white jailers before the Credentials Committee of the 1964 Democratic Convention brought her to national attention.
MZuri played the role of “Lucy” in the 1993 independent movie “Sankofa” and she sang on cabaret stages in New York and Paris for 10 years.
There will also be special music, dance, poems and readings during the program.

LEXINGTON ó Restoration Temple Family Life Center will be hosting a live performance by gospel recording artist, Minister Vernon Chappel, on Feb. 29. Doors open at 6 p.m. There is limited seating.
On March 1, recording artist, Tremaine Graham and Exodus will be performing. The music begins at 7 p.m and doors open at 6 p.m. Seating is also limited for this presentation. This concert is sponsored by the youth department in preparation for the upcoming pastoral anniversary.
