Salisbury’s Got Talent competition starts in April

The City of Salisbury’s Cultural Action Plan committee has announced plans to host “Salisbury’s Got Talent,” a competition featuring four performance categoriesómusic, dance, other talents and children.
A preliminary competition will take place April 12 beginning at 9 a.m.at City Park Center, 316 Lake Dr. Times will be assigned to pre-registered participants. On-site registration will be available on a first come first serve basis.
Judges will decide on the top three contestants in each category and those contestants will advance to the finale event to be held April 19. The top 12 finalists will be announced on Monday, April 14 via email to each contestant, through local media outlets and released online at www.salisburync.gov/salisburysgottalent.
At that time online voting will be made available for the public to vote for their favorite finalist. Online voting will conclude on Friday, April 18 at 5 p.m.
The top 12 finalists will perform at the Salisbury’s Got Talent finale event April 19 at 4 p.m. at the F&M Trolley Barn, 125 E. Liberty St. Winners will be announced that evening. Preceding the finale event will be a performance at 2 p.m. by the Amadeus Youth Chorus, performing selections from Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”
At 2:45 p.m, the Cultural Action Plan committee will present consultant Mary Berryman Agard who will give a brief summary of the committee’s efforts over the past several months.
Salisbury’s Got Talent is open to contestants in two age groups, children ages 15 and under and adults ages 16 and older.
Advance registration is $25 and onsite registration is $30.
Applications are due by April 1 and may be downloaded at www.salisburync.gov/salisburysgottalent or picked up from one of the following locations:
n Civic Center, 315 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. South;
n City Park Center, 316 Lake Dr.;
n Miller Recreation Center, 1402 W. Bank St.;
n Hall Gymnasium, 1400 W. Bank St.;
n First floor of the City Office Building, 132 N. Main St.
Completed applications and fees may also be dropped off at these locations.
Prize money will be awarded to top contestants. The top three overall winners will receive $1000, $500 and $250 consecutively. For the children’s age group, the top three contestants will automatically receive $100, $75 and $50 consecutively, but are also eligible for the top overall prize money.
