Linda Beck: Morning with Jesus

So often questions have been asked about where my story ideas come from. And many times I confess that they must have come from the Lord, because I can’t “create” the circumstances I feel led to write about.
When I was teaching Sunday school, it didn’t take me long to realize that most of the lesson magazines had been published over a year before we used them in our classes. Many times I was amazed at how appropriate the lesson scriptures were for my life or for certain episodes that were taking place in the lives of those in my class.
I always take something to read for the many doctor appointments I have to keep and you will see where this story came from the Lord. Since September when my accident happened, I was treated by nurses, therapists, and CNAS at Trinity Oaks rehab. But I also had to go to the office of the infectious disease doctor even after I went home from rehab.
Dr. Agbebi was very concerned and caring just as all of his staff were dedicated. I remember the first day I was there I had asked if I could get a cup of water. Alice said she could get me a small bottle of water.
After returning home from rehab in November, I have been blessed with home-health care nurses and therapists and I have had some special blessings with these folks, but I still have to go to the doctor’s office every two weeks for him to examine the wound. Fortunately, the infection from the burn has cleared up, though the dressing still has to be changed three times a week.
Dr. Agbebi recently turned me over to Dr. Cochron and both doctors and all the nurses are delighted that the wound has been healing so quickly. I was even nicknamed as an “overhealer.” God is so good!
On this particular visit I had brought a Christian magazine, “Mornings With Jesus,” along to read during times of waiting. When the nurses were finished preparing me for the doctor’s visit, Alice (the CNA from my first visit) asked if I would like to have a bottle of water. I thought that was very nice and accepted her offer.
While she was gone, I looked down at the daily magazine article, and the scripture at the top of the page was Matthew 10:42: “If you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded.” At the bottom of the page was a Faith Step which read: “Do something this week that requires you to help one who needs Jesus’s healing.”
I immediately knew a story was forming in my mind and once again thanked God though I know I am not “one of the least” because I am blessed that my insurance covers all the health care that I have needed. I don’t have to worry about the cost in addition to the pain as some patients do.
About that time, Alice returned with the bottle of water and I knew I needed to share this daily “Morning With Jesus.” She smiled so big and reached out to hug me as she thanked me for showing it to her. I know nothing about her personal life, but it was obvious that God shared with her how special she is to patients like me and to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I hope and pray that it gave her a special blessing just as it did me!
