This evening there will be the first ever South/ Carson Bash, featuring area youth praise bands. The event will be held in the auditorium of Carson High School. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the event starts at 7 p.m.
The public is invited to bring their friends and youth groups and come celebrate Spring break.
South Rowan and Carson High Schools’ CYC clubs (Committed Young Christians) are uniting to raise money for Carson to have a Bible class offered at school. This class is privately funded and needs the support of private donations to exist.
Club presidents Jordan Connell and Ronnie Hayward decided to plan an event that would encourage, inspire and challenge the community while also raising money for a cause.
Tickets are $4 in advance and $5 at the door. Tickets may be purchased through CYC leaders or by calling Angela Connell, club advisor, at 704-857-1161, ext. 285 from 7 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Salisbury Sociables
The next gathering of “Salisbury Sociables” will be this Saturday, 8-11 p.m. at the J.F. Hurley YMCA, 828 W. Jake Alexander Blvd.
This is a social organization for people 35 and older who are single, married, widowed or separated.
Deejay Charles Rivers will be providing all kinds of music for different styles of dancing, including ballroom, line dance and shag. Line dance lessons are offered at 7:15 p.m., led by Dora Kale.
The cost to attend is $10. Light refreshments will be served. The dress code is nice casual dress, no jeans, tee shirts, tennis shoes or halters.

MOORESVILLE ó Artist Cathy Sigmon will discuss and demonstrate Prismacolor colored pencil techniques at the next meeting of the Mooresville Artist Guild, March 25 at the Depot Fine Arts Gallery, 103 W. Center Ave.

CHARLOTTE ó DINOSAURS Alive! roars into Discovery Place as the Museum’s newest IMAX film premieres on the Carolinas’ largest movie screen in The Charlotte Observer IMAX® Dome Theatre Saturday, March 29.
DINOSAURS Alive! features spectacular animation and a live-action story that joins renowned paleontologists from the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) and their graduate students in the field as they uncover new fossils, including the remarkable discovery of what may be the oldest dinosaur ever found in North America.
Narrated by Michael Douglas, the film brings dinosaurs, their behaviors and their ancient environments to life on screen as never before seen ó juxtaposing stunningly realistic and scientifically accurate computer generated imagery with 1920s documentary footage.

The fifth annual Scrabble Scramble fundraiser for literacy is scheduled for Tuesday, April 22 at the Holiday Inn. Sponsored by the Rowan County Literacy Council, the event includes team playing with competition for prizes.
The Salisbury Post, Friends of the Library and the South Rowan Y Service Club will be defending their previous championship titles. More than 10 tables are expected to compete.
The event is open to the general public, and individuals who do not come as a team will be assigned to a table. Each table consists of 6 to 10 players.
The $25 entry fee per person includes a buffet dinner and three rounds of Scrabble. Without dinner, the entry fee is $15.
Reservations deadline is Thursday, April 17.
Raffle tickets at $1 each are also available.
Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m., and Scrabble begins at 6:30 p.m. The event concludes with the awarding of prizes at 8:45 p.m.
Business, community groups, civic clubs and church groups are encouraged to sponsor a table for their employees or members. All proceeds go towards tutoring Rowan County residents in reading or in learning English as their second language.

Winning artist
Leo E. Gosney III, a Rowan-Cabarrus Community College student and veteran of the war in Iraq, has placed first in an arts competition sponsored by the Veterans Administration.
Gosney claimed first place in the acrylic painting category of the Local Veterans Creative Arts Competition, coordinated by the W.G. (Bill) Hefner VA Hospital.
His work is now eligible for regional competition.
He could advance to a national showing later this year in California.
Gosney’s painting captures a sunrise in Balad, Iraq, as the new light illuminates a helicopter windscreen. Gosney recalled seeing the image before going out on a mission.
A resident of New London, Gosney joined the National Guard in 1986 and was deployed to Iraq from 2004-2006. He served on the U.S. southwest border in 2007.
He began taking classes at RCCC after returning from Iraq. He plans to earn an associate’s degree and transfer to a four-year college or university. He created his winning painting under the tutelage of RCCC art instructor Jonathan Church.
