New Year’s Eve
This New Year’s Eve, Downtown Salisbury Inc. invites the public to ring in the New Year with a celebration at Bell Tower Park on the corner of West Innes and South Jackson Streets from 11:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m.
Music will be provided by Jim Gobble, and there will be cookies, hot cider and cocoa.

Body Worlds ending
CHARLOTTE ó The exhibit “Gunther von Hagens’ Body Worlds: The Anatomical Exhibition of Real Human Bodies,” which made its debut at Charlotte’s Discovery Place last summer, has been one of the most successful exhibits hosted by the museum.
It ends its extended run on Jan. 6.
Admission to Discovery Place and Body Worlds is $22 for adults, $16 for children ages 6-13, $8 for children 5 and younger, $18 for students with ID or seniors ages 60 and over.
Tickets are available from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday through Sunday.
The exhibition remains open for up to two hours after the last timed-ticket entry.

Old Salem concert
WINSTON-SALEM ó On Jan. 19, Old Salem will host its Founders Gala featuring Tony Award-winning actress and singer Barbara Cook who has been delighting audiences for more than 50 years.
Cook has received rave reviews during the recent series of concerts she performed to celebrate her 80th birthday. On Oct.28, Variety Magazine commented that “The lyric soprano spent an hour and 45 minutes onstage displaying an incomparable tender tone on ballads and bluesóshe can belt the showstoppers like ‘San Francisco’ as wellóand an unquestioned command of every song, regardless of its style.”
Her performance in Washington, D.C.’s Kennedy Center garnered praise from The Washington Post on Oct.22: “Few stylists these days shape the contours of their personalities to words and music as successfully as she.”
The Founders Gala is a black tie event beginning at 6 p.m. with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at the Frank L. Horton Museum Center with a preview of the exhibit “Southern Perspective.” Dinner follows at 7:30 p.m. in the Visitor’s Center, followed by the performance by Barbara Cook at 9 p.m. in Gray Auditorium.
President’s Society donors will be treated to an after-show dessert reception to meet Cook. Tickets for the event are available for purchase at $250 per ticket.

Local history class
The Historic Salisbury Foundation Inc. and the Rowan Museum Inc. are sponsoring a course about local history.
The class will meet 7-8:30 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 7-April 17 at various historic sites around the county.
CEU credits are available for educators. Class size is limited.
