Salisbury Symphony thanks friends
This Saturday, the Salisbury Symphony concert entitled “Thanks to a Friend” will feature the symphony’s new timpani, purchased courtesy of a grant from their friends at The Blanche & Julian Robertson Family Foundation.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Keppel Auditorium at Catawba College.
The program will include a composition by Music Director David Hagy’s friend, Russell Peck, a concerto for timpani called “Harmonic Rhythm.”
Also on the program is the professional world premiere of a composition by Hagy’s mentor Tom Briccetti. “Illusions” features a movement inspired by and dedicated to Hagy.
Featured as well are Rossini’s Overture to “The Italian Girl in Algiers,” a Concerto for Strings by Vivaldi, and Paul Hindemith’s “Symphonic Metamorphosis on Themes by Carl Maria von Weber.”
A focus of the concert will be the new timpani and the fairly new principal timpanist, Peter Zlotnick. He studied at the Eastman School of Music and earned his master’s degree in music education and performance at Northwestern University. He now lives in Greensboro and plays with the Salisbury, Greensboro and Winston-Salem symphonies.
Concert sponsor is Central Carolina Neurology and Sleep.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $17 for seniors, and $6 for students, or by season ticket. Tickets may be purchased in advance, or at the auditorium box office beginning an hour before the concert.
