J.R. Poole, a senior at East Rowan High School, has been awarded the Inaugural AEM Construction Hall of Fame’s $5,000 Scholarship.
He was among participants of the Construction Challenge, students who are planning for a career in the construction industry, who submitted a 750-word essay for a chance to win the scholarship.
He was then one of five finalists. Over two weeks, the public was invited to vote on the winning essay on vote.conexpoconagg.com, where the essays are still available. Many of the voters were attending at the CONEXPO-CON/AGG Convention in Las Vegas.
After 17,000 online votes, Poole was awarded the scholarship.
He was in Las Vegas with his team competing in the Construction Challenge. The hands-on challenges, developed by the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM) in partnership with Destination ImagiNation Inc., spotlight creativity and problem solving with an introduction to careers in the construction industry.
