Alpha Psi Omega, the National Theatre Honor Society of Catawba College, is staging a one-night-only revue of musical theatre songs and original pieces.
Catawba theatre students will perform the revue at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Peeler Crystal Lounge of the Catawba College Community Center.
Funds raised go to AIDS awareness through the Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS Foundation (more info at broadwaycares.org.)
Admission for the event is “pay what you can.” Organizers will also be selling home-baked goods for $2 and AIDS ribbons for $1. 
AIDS Awareness brochures and pamphlets will be available.

Collectiques of Salisbury will be a featured dealer at the “Atlantique City” show in Atlantic City, N.J. on March 29-30. There will be 1,200 acres of antiques under one roof, making it one of the biggest indoor antique events in the world.

Tip Top seats
CHARLOTTE ó Performing arts fans can take advantage of a buy one, get one free special on balcony level tickets to many upcoming shows at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center and Spirit Square during the Center’s one day Spring Tip Top sale March 28.
Tip Top Sale tickets are available online all day Friday from midnight n 11:59 p.m. or while supplies last. Tickets can also be purchased by phone or at the Blumenthal box office in Founders Hall Friday, March 28 during regular box office hours, from 10 a.m. -6 p.m.
Tickets offered in the Tip Top Sale are normally located in the balcony sections of the applicable theater. Buyers must purchase tickets in increments of two and receive two tickets for the price of one (each ticket is half off the regular price.)

Salisbury’s Got Talent
The April 1 application deadline is approaching, so the talented people of Salisbury need to hurry and register for the showcase “Salisbury’s Got Talent” hosted by the City of Salisbury’s Cultural Action Plan committee.
There are four performance categoriesómusic, dance, other talents and a children’s category.
The top three overall contestants will receive $1,000, $500 and $250 consecutively. For the children’s age group, the top three contestants will automatically receive $100, $75 and $50 consecutively, but are also eligible for the top overall prize money.
Preliminary competition takes place beginning 9 a.m. April 12 at City Park Center, 316 Lake Drive. Times will be assigned to pre-registered participants. Onsite registration will be available on a first come first serve basis.
Judges will decide on the top three contestants in each category and those contestants will advance to the finale event to be held on April 19. The top 12 finalists will be announced on April 14 via email to each contestant, through local media outlets and released online at www.salisburync.gov/salisburysgottalent. At that time, online voting will be made available for the public to vote for their favorite finalist. Online voting will conclude on April 18 at 5 p.m.
The top 12 finalists will perform at the Salisbury’s Got Talent finale event on April 19 at 4 p.m. at the F&M Trolley Barn, 125 E. Liberty St. Winners will be announced that evening.
Salisbury’s Got Talent is open to contestants in two age groups, children ages 15 and under and adults ages 16 and older.
Applications for the competition are required and may be downloaded online at www.salisburync.gov/salisburysgottalent or picked up from the Civic Center, City Park Center, Miller Recreation Center, Hall Gymnasium or on the first floor of the City Office Building at 132 N. Main St.
Advance registration is $25 and onsite registration is $30. Completed applications and application fees may also be dropped off at these locations by April 1.

Day at the Lathe

PPT auditions
Piedmont Players Theatre will hold auditions for its next production, “The Graduate,” at 7 p.m. April 7-8.
Auditions will be held on the third floor of the Meroney Theatre. There will be a cold reading from script.
Rehearsals typically run 7-10 p.m. Monday-Friday. Show dates for “The Graduate” are May 15-18 and 21-24.

Rowan Arts Council
The Rowan Arts Council will host a ribbon-cutting for its new location at 413 N. Lee St. inside RailWalk Studios and Gallery.
At 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 18, the event will kick-off the Cultural Summit weekend and Earth Night Out and will feature remarks by Lou Murphy, artist and founder of the arts council, Rowan Arts Council co-presidents Anne Cave and Joan Zimmerman and Executive Director Marietta Smith.
Salisbury Mayor Susan Kluttz will officiate.
Entertainment is to be provided by The Polka Dots Polka Band.
A reception will follow.

Wicked lottery
CHARLOTTE ó A day-of-performance lottery for a limited number of seats will be held daily for “Wicked”, which will run April 9-20 at Ovens Auditorium.
Each day, 2 hours before show time, people who present themselves at the Ovens Auditorium box office, 2700 E. Independence Blvd., will have their names placed in a lottery drum and then 30 minutes later, names will be drawn for a total of 20 orchestra level seats at $25 each, cash only. You must be present at Ovens to win and show valid identification.
This lottery is available only in-person at the box office, with a limit of two tickets per person.
The Ovens parking lots will be open for lottery participants starting three hours before curtain and there will be no charge for parking. Identify yourself as a lottery participant to the lot attendant.

World Voice Day
RALEIGH ó The world-class specialists of the Duke Voice Care Center will be on hand for a celebration of World Voice Day 2-4 p.m. Sunday, April 6 at Meymandi Concert Hall in Raleigh.
Grant Llewellyn, North Carolina Symphony’s music director, will be the host of the event.
This voice health fair will include: information on how to care for your voice, with special tips for singers and other vocal performers, teachers, and clergy; interactive acoustic voice analysis; demonstration of video laryngeal imaging; vocal health screening; and a drawing for free North Carolina Symphony tickets.

NCSA auditions
WINSTON-SALEM ó The North Carolina School of the Arts will conduct auditions and interviews for its high school programs in dance, drama, music, and visual arts for fall 2008 enrollment on the following dates:
n School of Dance (grades 8-12) April 19 and July 11.
n School of Drama (12th-grade only) April 5, 12 and 19. (For selected candidates, an interview will be scheduled between April 23 and May 16.)
n School of Music (grades 9-12) April 11 and May 2. (Brass applicants should call the School of Music at 336-770-3260 to schedule an audition.)
n Visual Arts Program (grades 11 and 12) may interview March 28 and April 4, 11 and 18.
The state of North Carolina pays the full cost of attending NCSA (tuition, fees, and room and board) for in-state students who are accepted into the high school program. The N.C. General Assembly approved the NCSA initiative in 2001.
All high school programs require academic courses through the School’s High School Academic Program and award the high school diploma upon graduation. The auditions and interviews will be conducted on the NCSA campus, 1533 S. Main St. in Winston-Salem.

Call for art
RALEIGH ó Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina calls on photographers and artists to submit their work for a juried art show during the annual “Picture This” gala to be held Oct. 25, 2008, at North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh.
Professionals and amateurs are invited to submit their work in any subject. A mix of works will be chosen for guests to admire and purchase. Artists are encouraged to donate 40 percent of the proceeds to Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect. There is no entry fee for artists to apply or exhibit at the event.
