KANNAPOLIS ó The First Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis will host a workshop for family members and caretakers of those with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia.
The workshop, sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Care Group of the Presbytery of Charlotte, will be Sunday from 1:30- 4 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall. There is no charge and reservations are not needed. The event is open to the public.
The afternoon will include presentations and displays by organizations and vendors, and will conclude with a time of worship.

The Rev. Ron Coram, an evangelist from Tampa, Fla., will lead services at Franklin Baptist Church this Sunday at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. and also 7 p.m. April 7-9.
Coram pastored several churches before becoming a full-time evangelist. He is the son of a Southern Baptist pastor and one of three brothers in full time ministry.
This is Coram’s second time in revival at Franklin.

Luther’s Lutheran Church will once again hold its “Sunday Night at Luther’s” worship services beginning Sunday at 5:30 p.m.

Salem Lutheran
Salem Lutheran Church on Sherrills Ford Road will celebrate Preschool Sunday this week, with the pre-service music being provided by the children of the Salem Lutheran Preschool.
The children of the preschool are ages 2-4, and they will begin singing at 10:15 a.m. They will be led by Youth and Family Minister Doug Hefner.
The worship service that follows will include baptisms and the celebration of Holy Communion.
Wednesday evening, a special presentation will be given to those interested in estate planning. The perspective will be that of auctioneer Glen Hester. Supper will be served at 6 p.m. and the presentation follows in the fellowship hall.

First Baptist revival
First Baptist Church of Salisbury’s Spring Revival will take place April 11-13.
The services will be held Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights at 7 and Sunday morning at 8:30 and 11. All services will be held in the main sanctuary of the church. Child care (birthn5 years) will be provided.
In addition to uplifting music, the special speaker during these services is noted author and preacher Dr. Calvin Miller.
Miller is the author of numerous books ranging from Christian fiction to spirituality, biblical studies, and church leadership. He is a regular contributor to such magazines as Christianity Today, Campus Life and Leadership. He is sought after as a speaker for revivals and pastor’s conferences and is presently serving on the faculty of Samford University’s Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham, Ala., as a professor of preaching and pastoral ministry.
Miller is a dynamic speaker who believes in the primacy of evangelism. In his own church ministry, he has sought to be both a contemporary apologist, helping the church provide answers for a secular culture, and the equipper of the contemporary church for the task of missions and evangelism.

CLEVELAND ó Cedar Grove AME Zion Church, Cleveland, Missionary Department will have a Hat Program Sunday at 3 p.m.

Tent meeting
Bible Baptist Church, which meets in the old Dukeville School building at the corner of Long Ferry and Dukeville Roads, will hold an old fashioned tent meeting on the property Sunday at 11 a.m.
The service will be followed by a cookout dinner. All are invited.
The cookout will be followed by an afternoon service honoring all of our area’s public service people, including firemen, police, National Guard, government employees and elected officials.
Bible Baptist Church came into existence about two years ago.It was organized with 28 charter members one year ago, started a “Master’s Club” children’s program 10 weeks ago. It currently has 16 families, supports four missionary families, and is seeking to call its first pastor.
St. John’s Lutheran Pastor John Propst is offering a new sermon series in the 9 a.m. Center Celebration services of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
The series, which began March 23 and will run through April 27, is titled “Jesus Sightings: Seeing the Risen Christ” It focuses on stories of those who saw Jesus after the Resurrection.
The series takes a break this Sunday, April 6, as St. John’s Lutheran will join all three worship services together in a Unity Service in the main sanctuary at 11 a.m.
The “Jesus Sightings” will resume April 13 with a sermon by the Rev. Phil Tonneson who will disclose the events of Jesus’ meeting with the disciples on the road to Emmaus from the Gospel of Luke.
On April 20, Pastor Propst will present the “Breakfast on the Beach” story about the disciple Thomas.
The Great Commission will be detailed in the April 27 passage as Jesus sends out his followers to discipleship.

St. Luke Baptist 
The Rev. Thomas A. Banister III, pastor of Temple Memorial Baptist Church in High Point will be the guest speaker at the annual Men’s Day program at St. Luke Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Sunday.
Banister is the son of Deacon Thomas Banister Jr. and the Rev. Iris Banister of Rochester, N.Y. He was a 1998 graduate of Livingstone College, where he received a degree in elementary education. He attended seminary at Duke University, where he received a Master of Divinity degree in 2003. Presently, he is doing clerical training as a doctoral student at Virginia Union University’s Samuel D. Proctor School of Theology.
Banister and his wife Tarsha are parents of one child, De Maris.
Banister is recognized not only as a gifted teacher and anointed preacher, but has gained recognition as a singer/songwriter as well.

LASTING Word
LASTING Word, consisting of members of Evangelical Lutheran Church in America congregations, will meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 205 St. Paul’s Church Road.
LASTING Word (an acronym for Lutherans Affirming Scriptural Truth As God’s Word) seeks to work as a positive influence as the ELCA approaches its 2009 biennial Churchwide Assembly where a social statement on human sexuality will be presented for adoption.
The meeting will include a review of the ELCA Draft Social Statement on Human Sexuality and information about opportunities for feedback to the task force. Comments received by the task force prior to Nov. 1 will be considered in developing the final statement that will be released in Feb. 2009, and presented to the Aug. 2009 Churchwide Assembly in Minneapolis.
Issues facing the church currently include the blessing of same-sex relationships and allowing practice of homosexual ministers. LASTING Word seeks to help Lutherans to stay informed of these issues. All persons interested in working cooperatively toward these objectives are encouraged to attend and participate in the April 8 meeting.

Spring revival will begin at the Tower of Power United Holy Church Wednesday-Friday, April 9-11. Services will be 7:30 p.m.
The guest speaker will be the Rev. Harvey “Chop” Rice Jr., associate minister of Evangel Fellowship Church, Greensboro.
Rice graduated with a degree in communications and business administration from North Carolina A&T State University, Greensboro. He has recently been appointed executive pastor of Maranatha Fellowship Church in High Point.
He also serves as an emissary for his father, Bishop Harvey Rice Sr., pastor of Salisbury’s Mount Calvary Holy Church.

Women of Himfluence
KANNAPOLIS ó The Women of Himfluence Ministry of Kannapolis, is conducting its third annual Women’s Conference called “Livin’ Out Your Lookin’ Up,” April 26 at Parkwood Baptist Church in Concord.
It is a one-day event designed to promote cross-bearing discipleship as a way of life rather than a mere figure of speech.

Church golf league
McCanless Golf Club will be hosting a tournament in which each participating church will have a team roster of approximately 10 golfers of which four will play in weekly 9-hole matches. Each week, a church will play against a different church.
Each match will be a shotgun start at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoons. The first day of play will be a practice round held on May 6. The following week will begin 14 weeks of matches with the last match scheduled for Aug. 19. At the halfway mark there will be a bi-week scheduled for all churches (July 4th week).
The entry fee will be $100 for each church that participates. This fee will go toward prizes and the administration costs of running the league. There will also be a $14 cart and green fee for each golfer due before each match.
The league will benefit two local charities to be decided at the organizational meeting. Over the past two seasons, the league chose local Rowan County Christian-based charities as beneficiaries, raising nearly $2,000.
There will be an organizational meeting on April 8 at 5:30 p.m. in the clubhouse of McCanless Golf Club. Interested churches are asked to send at least one representative.
