‘Our State’s Finest!’

On Thursday March 9 at 7:30 p.m. the North Carolina Symphony will be performing at Keppel Auditorium at Catawba College.

David Glover, Associate Conductor, and the NC Symphony will be returning for a second time this year. They recently performed an educational concert for the Rowan-Salisbury School’s Fifth graders and surrounding counties on January 12, also at Catawba College.

Works being performed at this concert are Jubilation Overture by Robert Ward, Caroline Shaw’s Lo for solo violin and orchestra where Caroline herself will be the solo violinist and lastly, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4 in F Minor.

Caroline Shaw, a North Carolina native, composed Partita for 8 Voices, which received the Pulitzer in 2013 making her the youngest-ever winner of the most prestigious prize in American composition. Shaw is known as both a composer and performer. She forges a relationship with the orchestra by inserting herself into the music as the solo violinist; she fulfills her “Be free” adage by choosing not to notate much of her solo part, making every performance of Lo a thoughtful reinvention.

Come enjoy “Our State’s Finest!” Tickets to the North Carolina Symphony Orchestra’s March 9 concert are $23.75 for adults, $6.50 for students, and $4.25 for children ages 8 and younger; Balcony For A Buck is also offered for this concert.

The box office will open at 6:30 p.m. the evening of the performance.
