West Rowan’s baseball team got its bats going on Tuesday and clobbered Northwest Cabarrus, 14-4 in five innings, for a South Piedmont Conference win.

“We swung the bats well,” West coach Seth Graham said. “No home runs, but a lot of doubles.”

Pearce Wilhelm pitched into the fourth inning for the Falcons and earned the win. Olen Stamper finished up. Both hurlers fanned four.

Brandon Walton had three hits and four RBIs. Tommy Wilmot had three hits. Trevor Atwood had two hits and drove in four. Austin Love knocked in three runs.

Dillon Norton pitched South Rowan (3-1, 2-0 SPC) to a 5-1 SPC win at Concord on Tuesday.

Lane Argabright hit a three-run homer to highlight A.L. Brown’s 16-3 MECKA win against Vance on Tuesday.

Davie won against R.J. Reynolds, 4-3, in Central Piedmont Conference action in Winston-Salem on Tuesday.

Tyler Roberts pitched into the seventh for the win, and Chris Reynolds got the last two outs for a save.

Davie trailed 3-2 going to the top of the seventh but rallied to tie on hits by Landon Bandy, Reynolds and Beau Byerly. Carson Whisenhun’t sac fly plated the go-ahead run.

The Greater Cabarrus Stallions defeated Albemarle 6-3 on Tuesday.

The Stallions were led by Dalton Lankford with a double. Seth Cauble and McConner Wallace also contributed offensively. Trent Berry tossed a four-hitter and fanned seven.

The Stallions (9-0) will play a doubleheader on Thursday against the Carolina Royals at CMC Northeast Stadium.

Prep tennis

Salisbury won against Carson, 9-0, on Tuesday.

Prep softball

South Rowan pounded Concord 16-3 for a South Piedmont Conference win on Tuesday. Summer McKeon, Rileigh Ward and Whitley Arnott had two hits apiece for  the Raiders.

Anna Devereaux drove in four runs as Davie County routed R.J. Reynolds in CPC softball, 15-0.

Allie Baker had four hits and Savanna Hagler had three in A.L. Brown’s 8-3 win against North Meck. Ashlynn Stokes pitched a complete game and struck out six.

Prep girls soccer

South Rowan won against Concord, 4-2, on Tuesday for a South Piedmont Conference win. Madison Henry scored three goals for the Raiders. Taylor Mauldin had one.

Gracie Thomason scored three goals for Carson and Madison Yates had two in an 8-0 SPC win against East Rowan on Tuesday.

Adding a goal apiece for the Cougars were Taylor Conrad, Cary Campbell and Cassidy Sears.

Salisbury battled the Ledford Panthers to a 2-2 draw on Tuesday.

Salisbury (1-1-1) jumped out early when Emily Mann found a streaking Katie Bullock, who beat GK Tiffany Weatherman 11 minutes into the match.

The Hornets doubled the lead  10 minutes later when Bullock again found the net on a shot that beat Weatherman top shelf, just off of the fingertips.

Ledford changed momentum and got the equalizer midway through the second half.

Salisbury got excellent play from Julia Honeycutt, Ellen Simons and Nellie Brown.  Next  for the Hornets is a county matchup today against Carson. Game time is 5:30 p.m.

7th-grade hoops

Erwin’s boys basketball team beat North Rowan, 35-33, in a semifinal and will play Mooresville for the championship today at Corriher-Lipe at 5:30 p.m.

Erwin will play China Grove for the girls championship at 4 p.m.

Erwin’s undefeated girls advanced Monday with a 26-24 win against Knox in a semifinal.

Sacred Heart 

Sacred Heart’s girls soccer team opened with a 3-0 win against North Hills.

Spencer Hansen scored two goals, while Sutton Webb had one.

Mabel Harrison had an assist.  Theresa Holland and Kyna Zaldivar led the   defense.

Sacred Heart’s boys  tennis team fell to Pine Lake Prep.

Winning in doubles for the Dolphins were Ben Childress/Luke Graeber, and Colin Donaldson/John Sentilles.

College baseball

Florida Tech rode a five-run first inning to a 10-6 win over visiting Catawba in baseball action on Tuesday afternoon at Seminick Field. The Panthers improved to 13-5, while the 22nd-ranked Catawba Indians fell to 13-5.

Kyle Smith had three hits, including a homer. Malachi Hanes had a homer and three RBIs. Bryce Fowler went 3-for-4.

Bryan Ketchie (3-1) took the loss.

Catawba will face Saint Leo on Wednesday at 6 pm.

College women’s golf

  Catawba finished seventh out of 17 schools at the Pfeiffer Invitational which concluded on Tuesday at the 5,800-yard, par-72 Hilton Head Lakes Golf Club. The Catawba Indians finished with a 616 total which is the second best two-round score in school history. The school record is a 604 set in the fall of 2014.

Freshman Kaley Barts   nearly cracked the top 10, following her previous low of 75 Monday with an even better 74 on Tuesday to finish 11th with 149 total.

Local golf

Sixty-two GARS  members played a Texas Scramble at Corbin Hills.

New member Lynn Shook had a hole-in-one on the 142-yard No. 16 hole.

Two teams tied for first place with a minus-6. The team of Larry Perrell, Jim Brown, John Daniels,  Shook and James Lambert won the scorecard playoff over Winsten Mahaffey, Bobby Clark, Clive Mahaffey and Buddy Barger.

Two teams tied for third place with a minus-4.

Ray Pope, Gordon Correll, Larry Petrea and Windsor Eagle won the scorecard playoff over Les Loman, Roger Costic, Richard Loman and Harry Devlieger.

Closest to the pin on No. 2  was Winsten Mahaffey.

Longest putt on No. .9 was  by Floyd McVey.

College tennis

  Catawba finished its  Hilton Head matches Tuesday with wins. The Catawba men had a 9-0 sweep of Michigan Tech, while the women beat Davis & Elkins 5-4.
