Nominations will be accepted for North Carolina’s outstanding older worker for 2008 until June 1.
An online nomination form or a printed nomination form can be accessed at www.experienceworks.org. Family, friends or colleagues can send in a nomination, or older workers can self nominate.
The Experience Works Prime Time Awards program is part of an effort by the nonprofit organization to raise awareness of the contributions made by older individuals and to ease hiring of older workers. This year’s search is being sponsored by Home Instead Senior Care, which was honored as an outstanding employer of older workers in 2006. Nominees must be 65 or older, a resident of North Carolina, currently employed and working at least 20 hours a week for pay.
The search for America’s Oldest Worker is also under way, as is the search for outstanding employers of older workers.
Experience Works provides training and employment services for older workers.
Ronald McDonald post
Mona Johnson-Gibson has been named executive director of the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte.
Johnson-Gibson previously was director of behavioral health development at Stanly Regional Medical Center in Albemarle. She lives in Cabarrus County.
The Ronald McDonald House primarily serves Carolinas Medical Center and Presbyterian Healthcare patients.
Financial designation
CHINA GROVE ó Mary Moose was recently awarded a Registered Financial Planner (RFP) designation from the Registered Financial Planners Institute.
The Institute promotes professionalism and ethics in the field of financial planning for individuals and businesses.
Moose, an independent financial planner since 2000, is the founder and president of Victory Wealth Management Inc. and a Registered Principal with her broker dealer, Advantage Capital Corp.
Errand Masters opens
“Taking care of all of your errand needs” is the slogan of a new business, Errand Masters. The errand and concierge business offers service to those living in Rowan County, according to owners Karen and Bernard Cowan.
These include bill paying, light housekeeping, pickup or drop-off of prescriptions and dry cleaning, transportation to doctor appointments, pickup or drop-off for children’s activities, grocery shopping, waiting on repair workers and picking up newspapers and mail while customers are on vacation.
The business also provides services for churches and businesses, such as mailing documents or picking up lunch for staff. It offers discounts for senior citizens and special errands by request.
The Cowans are both graduates of Rowan-Salisbury Schools. She works at the Hefner VA Medical Center and has been providing errand services for 15 years. He works for Freightliner. They are members of Cornerstone Church and have five children.
