Autism Society to host Family Fun Gathering

A Special Autism Society of NC Rowan County Family Fun Gathering at the Rowan County Group April Support Meeting on Tuesday, April 18 from 6:30-8 p.m. The Family Fun Gathering will be at CiCi’s Pizza, 803-805 Jake Alexander Blvd. This is a special location just for April, which is Autism awareness month.

King Eye Center in China Grove and the ASNC Rowan County Support Group will be providing pizza buffet and a game card to each attendee. Bring the kids; this will be a great chance to connect with other families.

Flip Flops and Flamingos returns 

Flip Flops and Flamingos Summer Kickoff is the Families First fundraising event to be held Sunday, April 30, from 5 p.m. until, at the F&M Trolley Barn, 125 E. ‘Return to the Land of My Ancestors’ 

Tuesday, April 11 at 7 p.m. the Rowan History Club hosts local artist Robert Alvin Crum speaking about his work, “Return to the Land of My Ancestors.”

Crum is a descendant of Daniel Boone and the Bryan families of early Rowan County. He has extensively researched and created a series of oil and water color paintings that tell the story of the cultural conflict in 18th century North Carolina backcountry that led to America’s initial expansion into Kentucky and beyond. This project was awarded the 2016 Preservation Award from Historic Salisbury Foundation and the 2015 Arts and Cultural Development Grant from Rowan Arts Council. Meet in the Messinger Room, second floor of the Rowan Museum, 202 S. Elks Hoop Shoot 

Over the past nine months, young athletes from the across the country stepped up to the line to show off their free throw skills through the Elks Hoop Shoot. Only six will become National Champions.

Brooklyn Gammons is one of 72 of the nation’s best free throw shooters ages 8-13. Brooklyn’s hard work and dedication has taken her from Mount Airy Lodge No. 2061 to the Elks Hoop Shoot National Finals in Chicago.

ESU hosts an evening of music 

The English Speaking Union Salisbury Branch will host Dr. Burgess, director of choral activities at Catawba College and instructor of sacred music, and about 30 students from the Catawba College School of Music to offer a sampler of all of the disciplines that he teaches, including choral and instruments.

The dinner event is Thursday, April 20, at the Country Club of Salisbury. Reservations are $32. You do not have to be a member of the Country Club or the ESU to attend. RSVP to Gerry at 704-216-2660.
